Job Description

1. Role Purpose

The Plant Engineer is accountable for the safe, reliable, and legally compliant performance of all fixed plant assets within the mining concentrator. The role ensures maximum plant availability, statutory engineering compliance under the Mine Health and Safety Act, effective Asset Management Plan governance, reliability growth during ramp-up, shutdown excellence, and sustainable reduction of repeat failures.

2. Key Accountabilities

2.1 Engineering Authority & Legal Governance

  • Act as 2.13.1 or 2.13.3 legal appointee as designated.
  • Ensure compliance with MHSA engineering regulations.
  • Maintain statutory inspection schedules and engineering legal register.
  • Approve engineering standards and technical specifications.

2.2 Asset Management & Reliability Governance

  • Own and implement the Fixed Plant Asset Management Plan.
  • Establish and maintain asset criticality matrix.
  • Implement Reliability Centered Maintenance and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis strategies.
  • Drive reduction of repeat failures and reliability improvement initiatives.

2.3 Grinding Circuit Engineering Oversight

  • Manage liner strategy in collaboration with Process Lead.
  • Oversee mill gearbox, pinion, girth gear, and bearing reliability.
  • Integrate predictive maintenance tools such as vibration analysis and thermography.
  • Coordinate major mill relines and rebuild planning.

2.4 Maintenance & Shutdown Excellence

  • Oversee planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
  • Develop annual shutdown calendar and risk assessments.
  • Lead shutdown execution and post-shutdown performance reviews.
  • Monitor maintenance backlog and planning discipline.

2.5 Rotables & Critical Spares Strategy

  • Identify and manage critical spares and rotables.
  • Align inventory strategy with risk exposure and supply chain.
  • Forecast long-lead items and ensure availability.

2.6 Continuous Improvement & Debottlenecking

  • Analyse downtime trends and implement engineering improvements.
  • Support debottlenecking and capital project initiatives.
  • Drive equipment reliability and lifecycle cost optimisation.

2.7 Risk & Safety Leadership

  • Lead engineering risk assessments and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure Lock-Out Tag-Out compliance and lifting equipment statutory compliance.
  • Support Simultaneous Operations risk management during shutdowns and projects.

2.8 Leadership & Cross-Functional Integration

  • Lead multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
  • Collaborate with Process and HSE Leads.
  • Mentor junior engineers and reliability specialists.
  • Prepare engineering reports, budgets, and performance dashboards.

3. Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • BEng/BTech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • GCC Mines & Works (Mechanical or Electrical) required for 2.13.1 appointment.

Experience

  • 8–12 years in mineral processing or base metal operations.
  • Strong background in reliability engineering and fixed plant maintenance.
  • Proven experience in shutdown management and plant expansion projects.
  • Experience with CMMS systems such as SAP, OnKey, or Pragma.

4. Performance Indicators

  • Plant Availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Mean Time Between Failures and Mean Time to Repair.
  • Maintenance cost versus budget.
  • Statutory compliance audit score.
  • Successful shutdown execution within schedule and budget.
  • Reduction in repeat failures and reliability improvement metrics.
