Help deliver on the Government’s number one priority – housing

  • Temporary (Up to June 2029) full-time (35 hours per week) opportunity,
  • Office location based in Parramatta with flexible working supported
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $119,329 to $134,463 + super

The Housing and Key Sites Assessment branch

Boosting housing supply and deliver city-shaping development to build a better future for the people of NSW.

The NSW Government is committed to shaping thriving communities by providing an adequate supply of diverse and quality housing and other strategic development across NSW to support our communities to live and work where they want and how they want. The Housing and Key Sites Assessment branch assesses the biggest and most complex applications to deliver on the NSW Government’s housing target of 377,000 well located homes over the next 5 years. We do this through assessments of State significant development for a range of well-located housing, including affordable housing, built-to-rent apartments and seniors housing. We also assess other strategic development in key sites and precincts to help shape the future of NSW.

The role
In this role, you’ll support planning projects that help deliver housing and planning outcomes across NSW. You’ll work with councils, government agencies, industry and community stakeholders to research issues, analyse information, respond to enquiries and contribute to practical planning solutions that align with government and department priorities.

You’ll be part of a collaborative team working in a complex and fast-moving planning environment, where you’ll help prepare reports, briefings and correspondence, contribute to planning programs and translate technical information into clear, plain English advice.

What you will bring to the role

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant planning and environmental legislation and processes.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to collate and manage data, identify issues and suggest practical options or solutions.
  • Ability to communicate complex planning information clearly and confidently for a range of audiences.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, submissions, briefing notes, letters and other correspondence to support decision-making.
  • A customer-focused approach, with the ability to respond to stakeholder enquiries and provide accurate information and advice on planning matters.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members, councils, government agencies and external stakeholders to support planning outcomes.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to project delivery within agreed timeframes and standards.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with the ability to analyse information, think critically and contribute to improvements in systems, policies and processes.


What is an essential requirement:

  • Tertiary degree qualification or other equivalent qualification
  • Willingness to travel and Class C Driver’s Licence for regional positions
