Job Description

Hello. We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing

As a Planning Lead within our Technology Enablement team, you’ll play a key role in shaping how we plan and deliver our technology portfolio.

Reporting to the Manager, Technology, Strategy and Advisory, you’ll own the facilitation of quarterly and annual planning cycles end-to-end, ensuring the right structure, inputs and alignment are in place to drive effective delivery across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead end-to-end planning cycles, including quarterly and annual planning ceremonies, working sessions and executive reviews
  • Ensure the right inputs, outputs and stakeholders are aligned across each planning cycle
  • Facilitate cross-domain dependency management, identifying risks, blockers and trade-offs
  • Champion consistent planning practices across teams, supporting adoption in a transforming technology environment
  • Build strong relationships across delivery teams, program leadership and executives to drive alignment and decision-making
  • Present resourcing views and planning insights to leadership to support prioritisation and maximise delivery outcomes
  • Develop and maintain planning playbooks, processes and governance frameworks
  • Continuously improve planning approaches, iterating based on feedback and outcomes
  • Drive adoption of planning tools and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, including through automation or AI
  • Support portfolio visibility, including tracking initiative progress, resource utilisation and delivery outcomes

This is a highly visible role at the centre of our technology delivery model, helping ensure we are set up to deliver effectively at scale.

You’ll be great in this role if you have…

  • Experience in planning, delivery, business analysis or program roles within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating planning cycles or large-scale workshops across multiple teams
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and align senior leaders
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present clearly to executive audiences
  • Ability to balance big-picture thinking with strong attention to detail
  • Experience working in ambiguity and driving outcomes in evolving environments
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to proactively identify and escalate risks

Desirable:

  • Experience in scaled or cross-domain planning (e.g. SAFe, LPM or similar frameworks)
  • Experience within technology or digital delivery environments
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira or similar planning platforms
  • Exposure to governance design, portfolio management or operating model transformation
  • Interest or experience in leveraging AI or automation to improve planning processes

We’re committed to looking after you, with some of the best benefits and conditions in the industry – including (but not limited to):

  • Discounted flights for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • A flexible, hybrid work style. Work from home or the office, adapt your location to suit your style and needs
  • One of Brisbane’s most admired head office locations, with South Bank train station, a supermarket, pharmacy, and lunch options downstairs plus a 5-minute walk to the Busway, a rooftop restaurant and onsite gym (with a low membership fee) and South Bank Parklands just across the road
  • Discounts on travel insurance, lounge membership, car hire, accommodation, and experiences worldwide
  • Cheaper hospitality, retail, technology, beauty and wellness services
  • Free counselling and access to a well-being app to support your physical, mental, social and financial health
  • ‘Dress for Your Day’ – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever makes you feel great for the day ahead
