Drive smarter, safer and more efficient road maintenance delivery.

As a Planning Engineer, you’ll play a key role in developing and maintaining forward‑looking maintenance programs that ensure the right work is completed at the right time across the VRMC Hume network. This role blends analytical planning, system management (Asset Vision), field insight and stakeholder coordination to keep works moving smoothly and safely.

Working as part of the VRMC Planning Team, you’ll support the Planning Manager to maintain lookahead programs, coordinate approvals, prepare schedules, and issue works packages that enable high‑quality, zero‑harm delivery. This is a dynamic, hands‑on position ideal for someone who thrives on problem‑solving, collaboration, and ensuring maintenance teams are set up for success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage the Works Management Information System (Asset Vision) and ensure program data is accurate and current.
  • Support the development of annual maintenance plans, monthly programs and 4-8 week lookaheads.
  • Prepare, manage collaborate and issue work packages to the delivery teams, ensuring resources and crews are aligned.
  • Analyse production data, crew performance and defect rectification trends to inform future programs.
  • Identify procurement requirements early to ensure timely delivery of works.
  • Produce fortnightly/monthly maintenance programs and present submissions to the client.
  • Provide timely reporting, performance updates and notices in line with contract requirements.
  • Engage proactively in safety practices, toolbox talks and field observations to foster a Zero Harm culture.

What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project/Construction Management, Planning, IT or related field.
  • 5+ years’ experience managing long‑term or dynamic works programs, ideally within road or asset maintenance.
  • Proven capability in planning/scheduling within maintenance environments.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across inspectors, delivery managers, engineers and subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of asset/works management systems and dynamic scheduling.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to quickly evaluate information and make sound, practical decisions.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills with a systems‑thinking approach to process improvement.
  • A commitment to safety, collaboration and continual improvement.
