THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED AN HOURLY RATE OF $26.73.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Administration (ADMIN) ensures that ACS has the resources and support necessary to function effectively and efficiently. Offices with ADMIN include Procurement, Facilities, Personnel, Administrative Services, and Accountability and Audit. ADMIN’s functions include personnel management as well as building maintenance, workplace safety, health and security, transportation, purchasing of goods and services, graphic services, and records management.

Within ADMIN, the Office of Planning, Design & Facilities Management (PD&FM) is charged with providing a functional and safe work environment for all ACS staff. PD&FM manages design and construction projects for all ACS locations, including over 43 administrative offices throughout the five boroughs and the Nicholas Scoppetta Children’s Center. PD&FM is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Architectural Planning & Design Graduate Intern to join our team.

As an Architectural Planning & Design Graduate Intern, you will work alongside senior architects and planners to develop design plans, conduct project assessments, and assist with research on building materials and regulations. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in architectural research and design processes by preparing drawings, visiting sites, and checking building conditions. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with conducting research, investigations, studies or examinations related to architectural functions and activities

- Develop, prepare, and review drawings, maps, plans and detailed sketches or layouts, using various methods and technologies for the construction, remodeling, or repairs of ACS facilities, structures, and installations

- Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and identify potential issues

- Perform research on materials, buildings codes, zoning, regulations, and other laws and standards to ensure compliance with local, state and federal requirements

- Support senior architects with project assessments, organizing project files, and associated project tasks

- Attend meetings, communicate with contractors and other agencies

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain hands-on experience in architectural research and design processes

- Learn to use AutoCAD and other tools to create and revise architectural drawings

- Develop an understanding of building codes, zoning regulations, and compliance requirements
