The Corporate Planning and Reporting Unit (CPR) leads corporate processes and deliverables relating to business planning, performance reporting; enterprise risk management; provincial health agency and provincial health corporations’ planning and performance reporting accountability requirements as well as Red Tape Reduction. The unit relies on cross-department input and feedback to complete corporate planning and reporting deliverables and briefing materials for the Deputy Minister and/or Minister approval.

Role Responsibilities

The Corporate Planning and Reporting team is seeking two (1 permanent; 1 (one-year) temporary) highly skilled and strategic Planning and Reporting Advisors to join the Corporate Planning and Reporting unit. This role, reporting to the Manager, Planning and Reporting, provides expertise and support in all phases of provincial health agencies and provincial health corporations’ planning and performance reporting processes and products, including, health plans, business plans, operational plans, bi-annual performance reports, and annual reports. This position works within established frameworks, standards, and timelines to ensure an integrated approach to Hospital and Surgical Health Services and consistency of information to meet legislated and policy requirements.

The Planning and Reporting Advisor uses strategic planning and project management expertise to coordinate and complete projects involving the Minister, Deputy Minister, Senior/Executive Management Team members, and other senior department staff. The Advisor leads in developing a variety of written materials to support decision making, as well as preparing recommendations for the approval of planning and reporting documents via briefings and written responses through Action Requests.

Responsibilities:

Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development of planning and performance reporting accountability frameworks for provincial health agencies and provincial health corporations for which the Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services is responsible.
  • Lead departmental reviews of planning and reporting deliverables of the provincial health agency and provincial health corporations.
  • Lead or support collaborative development of standards and guides to communicate Ministry guidelines on planning and reporting products to the provincial health agency and provincial health corporations.
  • Review of accountability frameworks, planning and performance reporting products, and processes to support continual improvement of the strategic planning process.
  • Support the development of the Ministry’s corporate planning and reporting deliverables and red tape reduction count and forecast reports.
  • Lead the development of a variety of briefings and reports to provide advice to senior management and support decision making.
  • Support the CPR unit's management team to accomplish operational objectives and goals.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • University graduation in a related field Public Administration, Business, Economics, Communication, Social Sciences (or a related field) plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Assets:

The following assets will be considered

  • In-depth knowledge of the Alberta acute care system and its governance structure.
  • Experience in public accountability reporting and/or the Government of Alberta business planning and reporting processes, timelines, and standards.
  • Experience in strategic, business, and operational planning, performance reporting, and performance measurement.
  • Strong research and analysis experience, and proven ability to synthesize complex information into concise briefing materials, reports, and recommendations
  • Experience in project management.

This position may be based in either Edmonton or Calgary.

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.
