Requirements

Serves as Planner for environmental and land planning assignments - assist with the preparation of master plans, land use permit applications, and environmental assessment/EIS documents. Perform research, site visits, data collection, report writing, and interacts with clients and technical experts, and communities.

Essential Duties (Major Responsibilities/Activities):

  • Performs work requiring independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Independently solves problems encountered.
  • Works under the direction of others to support planning efforts.

Responsible for assisting with:

  • Technical writing, analysis and interpretation for environmental assessments, EIS and related reports in compliance with HRS Chapter 343 and NEPA requirements.
  • Preparation of land use permit application materials, assist filing with government agencies.
  • Preparation of land use master plan materials (including collection of research materials and report data, evaluation of research materials for applicability, preparation of graphic concepts, and coordination of report completion, production and distribution).

Ability to:

  • Traverse off island for periodic site visits and meetings.
  • Traverse uneven terrain and walk through project sites.
  • Lift 15 pounds

Education/Experience

  • Qualified candidates must have a BS/BA in environmental planning, urban planning, environmental science, engineering and/or equivalent degree.
  • MS/MA in environmental planning, urban planning, environmental science, engineering and/or equivalent degree is preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience preferred.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Effective written and oral communication skills. Writing samples will be required at time of interview.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Can conduct effective direct source research techniques, including technical reference documents, government regulations and maps.
  • Capable of organizing project files for reports, maps and plans.
  • Capable use of MS Office products.
  • Self-motivated/self-directed.

Compensation $55,000 - $76,875
