Performs responsible professional planning work in the development, design, conduct, and completion of community planning projects; and performs other related duties as required.
There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Planning Department - Long Range Division in Hilo.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.

Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: the principles, practices, purposes, scope, and techniques of community planning; purpose, principles, trends, and practices in federal, state, and local planning; research methods and statistical preparations; general and technical sources; state and local laws and ordinances relative to community planning; government organizations and functions; report writing; public relations; principles and practices of supervision; and personal computer operation and various software applications.
Ability to: conduct planning studies and projects; understand and apply planning concepts and methods; understand the planning process and principles; read, comprehend, and analyze a broad range of subjects; collect, compile, correlate, and analyze facts and data, and draw sound conclusions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; prepare charts, graphs, and other presentations; prepare clear and concise reports; operate desktop computers and peripheral equipment; conduct site visits, investigations and meetings with property owners; conduct/facilitate training/meetings around the Island of Hawai`i; and deal effectively and establish rapport with officials of government, private organizations, and the public.
