SALARY

(Steps A-E)

Planner III: $33.59 - $40.83 Hourly/$2,687.20 - $3,266.40 Biweekly

Planner IV: $37.08 - $45.07 Hourly/$2,966.40 - $3,605.60 Biweekly

Position Description: Under direction of the Planning Director, performs a broad range of advanced professional planning functions involving the most controversial and technically complex community planning, zoning and land use matters; assists with technical and administrative matters related to County planning; and provides information to the public regarding department functions and activities. Incumbents assigned to the Planner IV classification may serve as the Planning Director in his / her absence.

Examples of duties

• Reviews and manages complex special studies and analyses related to planning projects, programs and operations.
• Performs and manages a variety of the more complex and comprehensive planning projects, conducts research and performs data analysis.
• Oversees specialized planning functions, including large-scale new development proposals and environmental studies.
• Provides overall management of all planning, land use, zoning, and environmental review activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Planner III

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in planning, public administration, architecture, geography or a related field. Master’s degree in a related field is desirable.
• Four (4) years of professional experience in public sector planning experience or related work in urban planning encompassing advanced and/or current planning activities is preferred.
• Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Planner IV

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in planning, public administration, architecture, geography or a related field. A Master’s degree is desired.
• Six (6) years of professional experience in public sector planning experience or related work in urban planning encompassing advanced and/or current planning activities, including two (2) years of professional experience as a lead project manager on large scale development projects, which included responsibility for coaching and mentoring lower level staff;
• Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

License & Special Requirements:

• Requires possession of a valid California driver’s license.
• American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification preferred.

Supplemental information

The Department is currently recruiting for one (1) vacancy.

Additionally, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Planner III/IV, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
