Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Pūkenga/Pukenga Matua - Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Educational Psychology (Trauma-Transformative Support). The position is located within Te Whānau o Ako Pai School of Education within Te Pukenga Wai - The Faculty of Education, Health and Psychological Sciences. This is a permanent, full-time role with a preferred start date in January 2027.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of innovative online postgraduate education and qualifications while advancing research that supports the healing, inclusion, and wellbeing of individuals, families, whānau and communities.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The successful candidate will have a relevant academic qualification (PhD or master’s degree) and professional training in Educational Psychology or a related area of Psychology (such as counselling, clinical, or community psychology), counselling and/or social work. Candidates need to have knowledge, expertise, and/or established research on trauma, trauma-informed practice, psychosocial interventions, culturally sustaining and evidence-based supports for individuals, families, whānau or communities.

We particularly welcome applications from people with expertise and experience working with Māori, Pacific and other diverse communities including tamariki and/or rangatahi, teaching in higher education, and delivering educational programmes.

As a Pūkenga/Pukenga Matua - Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Educational Psychology, you will teach online postgraduate courses in trauma-transformative support; develop and maintain an active, high-quality research programme aligned with your area of expertise, supervise postgraduate students, and engage in scholarly and administrative services to the profession, the School, Faculty, and University.
