The Opportunity:

Hudbay Minerals Inc. is seeking a Pit Labourer at our Copper Mountain Mine in Princeton, BC. This position is a 7/7, 12-hour shift, Day shift / Night shift schedule.

Please note that this opportunity is NOT a fly-in-fly-out position.

Location

Copper Mountain Mine is located near the town of Princeton, British Columbia at the center of the scenic Similkameen Valley. Princeton is a community-oriented town with a diverse offering of activities, especially for those who love the outdoors. Princeton is also in close proximity to both the city of Vancouver and the Okanagan.

Summary

Reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor, the Pit Labourer team member is responsible for the management and support of high-voltage power cables and related equipment in the active mine area.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct all work in a safety conscious and detail-oriented manner,
  • Deliver dust suppression water, drill bits, and drill string components to the drills as required, including removal of used components to proper disposal locations,
  • Assists drill operators with bit/steel changes as required,
  • Daily maintenance of the fuel islands including spill response, garbage removal, and re-stocking of supplies as required,
  • Clean and support the installation of any in-pit signage/mirrors, reflective taping, road marking lights,
  • Support the mine operations team in maintaining the cleanliness of the light vehicle and bus fleets,
  • Support geology sampler when required in obtaining accurate blasthole samples and delivery to the assay lab,
  • Performs any other responsibilities related to the Pit Labourer role as required or as assigned by the department head.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED),
  • Previous manual labour work experience is considered an asset,
  • Previous experience operating heavy equipment is considered an asset,
  • Possess a valid Class 5/7N driver’s license and have access to personal transportation.

Required Skills

  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to get trained on various equipment, learn from others and adopt best practices while maintaining a strong focus on safety, integrity, and reliability,
  • Possess a solid mechanical ability/aptitude,
  • Self-motivated and able to work alone or with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions

  • Work requires working in heavy industrial environments; this may have conditions that include adverse temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; walking on slippery and/or rough, uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; at heights; and involves climbing ladders and stairs,
  • Exposure to working outdoors in all weather conditions, operating a light vehicle at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain, including winter driving,
  • Regular exposure to lifting and moving items and equipment up to 50 pounds.

Rate of Pay

$33.19/ hr.
