Position Summary

VP Supply Corp. is seeking a dependable and experienced Pipe Yard Lead to oversee the day-to-day operations of our pipe yard in Buffalo, NY. The Pipe Yard Lead will ensure that incoming materials are received, stored, organized, picked, loaded, and delivered safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working outdoors and in a fast-paced distribution environment. They will also be safety-minded and take pride in keeping the yard organized and operating efficiently. They should be comfortable making decisions and solving problems on a day-to-day basis. This position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to operate material-handling equipment safely.

This position requires flexible availability Monday - Friday anytime between 5:00 AM - 9:00 PM (schedule will vary daily).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily activities of the pipe yard.
• Receive, unload, inspect, and properly organize pipe, fittings, valves, and other materials.
• Ensure yard inventory is accurately stored, identified, and maintained.
• Coordinate material picking, staging, loading, and preparation for customer deliveries and pickups.
• Safely operate forklifts, loaders, cranes, or other applicable material-handling equipment.
• Verify orders and materials for accuracy before loading or releasing them to customers and drivers.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and safe yard environment.
• Assist with inventory counts and investigate discrepancies as needed.
• Communicate with warehouse, sales, delivery, and branch personnel to coordinate material needs.
• Monitor equipment and report maintenance or safety issues promptly.
• Follow all company policies and OSHA requirements related to material handling, equipment operation, and workplace safety.
• Help identify opportunities to improve yard organization, productivity, and customer service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a warehouse, distribution center, pipe yard, lumber yard, construction supply, plumbing/HVAC supply, or similar environment preferred.
• Familiarity with pipe, plumbing, HVAC, construction, or industrial materials is a plus.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand pick tickets, packing slips, and other material documentation.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn company inventory systems.
• Ability to work independently.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials as required by the position.
• Flexible availability and willingness to work a varying schedule.

Physical Requirements

This position is hands-on and requires the ability to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequently bend, reach, climb, and work around stored materials.
• Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier materials moved using appropriate equipment.
• Work safely around forklifts, trucks, cranes, and other heavy equipment.
• Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, snow, and other weather conditions.
