Why Your Role Matters

The Pickleball Instructor will focus on providing high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, inclusive environment for players of all ages and skill levels. This position supports the YMCA’s mission by helping participants develop their pickleball abilities, confidence, and love for the game. The Pickleball Instructor will lead engaging lessons, clinics, and programs that promote growth, teamwork, and fun, while ensuring a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all. This role also supports smooth daily court operations and clear communication with participants.

How You Will Make an Impact 

  • Design and deliver engaging pickleball lessons, clinics, and programs that meet the different needs and skill levels of participants, promoting skill development, sportsmanship, and fun.
  • Support daily court operations, including the setup and breakdown of pickleball equipment.
  • Provide personalized coaching and constructive feedback to help players enhance technique, strategy, and overall enjoyment of the game.
  • Serve as a welcoming and professional point of contact for participants, offering timely communication and updates about schedules, progress, and program details.
  • Administer first aid when needed and complete incident or accident reports in accordance with YMCA safety protocols.
  • Stay informed on current pickleball trends, teaching methods, and equipment innovations to ensure high-quality instruction.
  • Foster an inclusive and positive learning environment, encouraging participation and engagement from all players.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and events as required to support program success.
  • Act as an ambassador for the YMCA, sharing the organization’s mission and culture with members, peers, and guests to foster a sense of belonging.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Y

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience teaching pickle ball to youth or adults across a variety of skill levels.
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire participants with diverse playing styles and abilities
  • IPTPA Certified Teaching Professional
  • First Aid/CPR certifications (must be obtained within 60 days of employment).
  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are a plus.

Physical Requirements:  

The role requires the ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for extended periods while demonstrating tennis techniques and quick movements. The instructor must be capable of lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds and have the stamina to conduct multiple coaching sessions, often outdoors in various weather conditions. Strong visual and auditory abilities are essential to ensure participant safety and respond quickly to any incidents. Additionally, the role may involve bending, kneeling, and reaching to support drills and assist players as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Pay Range

$15.00-$40.00 per session, DOE
