Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Physics or Physics Education from a recognized university.
  • A Master’s degree is desirable.
  • 5 years’ teaching experience teaching secondary Physics, preferably within an international curriculum setting.
  • Experience teaching IB MYP and / or DP Physics is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in a diverse, multicultural, international school environment, with a strong understanding of student-centred, inquiry-based pedagogy and assessment practices aligned to international standards.
  • Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration is required.

The position

The Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKES, Kenya) operates five schools in Kenya and provides nursery to senior secondary education in both national and international curricula. It is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private development agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people of all faiths and origins in specific regions of the developing world.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi (AKA, Nairobi) is an IB continuum school in Kenya authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB) from Early Years through the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). With over 1000 students, AKA, Nairobi is a multi-cultural school with a variety of nationalities represented in our student and teaching faculty.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi - Senior School has an opening for the position of: Physics Teacher (Academic Year 2026 / 2027)

The successful candidate will teach Physics across the IB MYP and DP and work collaboratively within the Science Department to deliver engaging, rigorous and student-centred learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver high-quality Physics lessons aligned with the IB MYP and DP frameworks, ensuring coherence with subject objectives, assessment criteria and inquiry-based learning principles.
  • Design and implement engaging learning experiences, including practical investigations and experimental work that develop students’ conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills and scientific thinking.
  • Develop, administer and moderate formative and summative assessments in line with IB standards, providing timely, constructive feedback to support student progress and achievement.
  • Use differentiated teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students in a multicultural, international school environment.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive and stimulating classroom climate that promotes student well-being, curiosity and a love for learning.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, parents and colleagues, supporting positive partnerships in student learning.
  • Contribute to co-curricular programmes, school initiatives and enrichment activities that enhance the holistic development of students.
  • Engage in ongoing professional learning, reflection and growth, including participation in IB professional development where applicable.
