Compensation Range:

$19.62 - $26.49

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Performs complex secretarial and administrative duties in a fast-paced environment supporting clinical, educational, and academic programs. Responsible for all clinic preparations, including but not limited to providers' time and calendar management while optimizing provider-patient schedule, coordination of patient care, and information/data support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Drafting letters of medical necessity (requires knowledge about the different genetic test technologies, literature review, research/baseline knowledge about the genetic disorders we are testing for, etc.).
  • Referral triage (assists with reviewing referrals for urgent, appropriateness for our clinic, necessary and missing information, etc.).
  • Coordination of genetic testing (coordinating sample collections, filling out test requisition forms, reminder call for sample collection).
  • Answer/take calls regarding patient questions related to genetic testing (test status updates, testing process, etc.).
  • Notify patients of cost information, insurance prior authorization decisions, etc. Put together the prior authorization requests for the PA specialist to submit.
  • Find additional records/ obtain records and genetic testing from family members, other medical offices.
  • Other projects as needed: Update metabolic patient database, assist with patient event coordination (PKU event, etc.), help send out mailings for GC student research projects.
  • Clinic preparation: Meet with the Genetic Counselor’s each week to discuss each patients case prior to them being seen to see what genetic testing may be offered to get a head start on the logistical items for each patient (writing test requisitions, obtaining prior auth information (test name, lab, CPT codes) and sends to the prior auth team, sometimes requests additional information that may still be missing (such as patient questionnaires), etc..
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma and 2 years of relevant experience required
  • Medical Terminology, experiences with surgical/appointment scheduling software (such as Flowcast), and electronic medical records preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated customer relations skills required
