The Physician Services Clerk provides quality customer service to patients and performs those functions delegated and assigned by the Office Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Carries out front office activities in a kind and courteous manner and is helpful to customers and their families
  • Notifies office manager of customer complaints in a timely manner
  • Gathers appropriate demographic information on each customer and updates the practice management system
  • Notifies customers of long waits and offers alternatives
  • Ensures effective telephone communication and documents messages
  • Coordinates all EMR/medical record activities
  • Collects and post payments and ensures safety and security of all monies
  • Schedules patients and coordinates appointment scheduler activities to facilitate efficient patient flow
  • Performs insurance eligibility verification and obtains prior authorization as needed
  • Researches patient ledger in effort to educate patient on balances due and collect payment for services rendered
  • Performs appointment confirmation telephone calls
  • Completes required in-services
  • Participates in the development and implementation of patient satisfaction improvements
  • Makes referrals to other medical care team members when needed


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s degree or higher, preferred
Certifications: Must have or obtain within 6 months of employment, Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Certification must remain active and in good standing throughout employment.
Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience with computers, coding, and medical terminology preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, problem-solve, and handle stress in a positive manner
