Job Description

Perform surgery and related procedures on the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial regions to treat diseases, injuries, or defects. May diagnose problems of the oral and maxillofacial regions. May perform surgery to improve function or appearance. May supervisor and instruct General Dentistry Residents during specialty clinics.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

  • Administer general and local anesthetics. Administer anesthetics or sedatives to control pain.

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and especially with Resident Program Director to plan or provide treatment.

  • Evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth to determine whether problems exist currently or might occur in the future.

  • Analyze patient data to determine patient needs or treatment goals.

  • Perform surgery to prepare the mouth for dental implants, and to aid in the regeneration of deficient bone and gum tissues.

  • Remove impacted, damaged, and non-restorable teeth.

  • Treat infections of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaws, and neck.

  • Treat acute illnesses, infections, or injuries.

  • Remove tumors and other abnormal growths of the oral and facial regions, using surgical instruments.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited University.

  • Active License in the State of Alaska or another US State. Alaska license preferred.

  • Board Certified OMFS.

  • BLS, ACSL, PALS required

Experience Required

  • 5 years’ working experience is preferred.

Knowledge of

  • Working knowledge of proper infection control techniques.

  • Understanding of the principles of dental disease and appropriate treatment therapies.

Skills in

  • Oral and written communication skills

  • Hand dexterity skills

  • Diagnostic and skills

Ability to

  • Ability to make accurate clinical judgment.

  • Physically able to sit over patient for hours at a time.

  • Ability to teach others in a classroom and clinical environment.
