DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Orthopedic, Neurosurgery & Physiatry Service Line at St. CharlesHealthSystem provides ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient care for the health system as well as withinambulatory surgery centers. This service line includes approximately 60 providersrepresentingthe fullspectrum of neuromusculoskeletal care across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgerycentersand clinics.The team will collaborate extensively with therobustsports medicineprogram designed to meet the growingneeds of the Central Oregon community.

Non-operative sports medicine providersare responsible forproviding medical,procedural (injection, splinting, bracing),concussion care,andpostoperative management of patientswith musculoskeletal injuriesNon-operative sports medicine providerswill work in collaboration with other medical specialties to assess andmanagepatients following established standards and practices. This position will primarily work in theBend and Redmondclinics,though a presence in some of the outreach clinics is alsoexpectedAs a member of the sports medicineteam, non-operative sports medicine providers are also expected toparticipatein the coverage of athletic events in the community (high school football, basketball, training roometc).

Work schedule: Physician will haveroughly 32patient facing hours per week as a 1.0FTE which is proratedproportionate to their FTE. This will be a blend ofscheduled clinic visits,NowCareurgent visits, and athletic event coverageincluding charting of patients and other necessary duties, recognizing that theminimumrequirement may fluctuate up and down based on direct patient care.

Work location: Physician’s primary clinic work location will be in Bend, Redmond and may include someworkin outreach clinics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: (May performadditionalduties of similar complexity within SCHSas required or assigned)

Clinical Expectations:

  • Examines, diagnoses, and provides a broadscope ofmusculoskeletalconditionsand concussionsincludingconservative care and treatment, acutecareand elective surgical procedures.

  • May perform emergency procedures inclinic

  • Performs patient examinations, obtains and records pertinent medical history, subjective,and objective findings.

  • Orders and interpretsappropriate laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic procedures.Mayinclude reading and interpreting their own x-rays as part of thepatient'sassessment.

  • Interprets and integrates data todeterminediagnosis, and therapeutic plan.

  • Administers and prescribes medications in compliance with state law and practiceguidelines.

  • Orders and performsappropriate medicaland surgical proceduresin accordance withStatelawand practice guidelines.

  • Instructspatientsand familyregardingmedications and treatments.

  • Educates patientsregardinghealth, illness prevention, and healing. Recommendscommunity resources to meet patient and family needs.

  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information, documentingclearly and concisely.

  • Triages patient telephone calls, providing consultation as needed.

  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients, physicians, and administration.

  • Maintainsqualityclinical practice by selecting appropriate avenues for professionalgrowth.

  • May performadditionalduties of similar complexity within the organization, asrequiredorassigned.

Administrative Expectations:

  • Document all patient care within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and complete allnecessary tasks in compliance with health system policies and regulatory agencies toensuretimelyandaccuratebilling.

  • Be familiar with the SCHSorganizationstructure.

  • Participate in SCMGphysiciansmeetings andassistin policy formation for SCMG andPhysician’s practice.

  • Keep medical knowledge and skills current through regular CME activity. Must attest to

  • having adequate (CME) to meet maintenance of board certification and compliance withMSO rules and continuing privileges without restriction.

  • Keep all licenses andappropriate certificationscurrent and unrestricted.

  • Maintain active privileges at St. Charles Health System hospitals sufficient to permitperformance of job duties.

EDUCATION

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.

  • Successful completion of an accredited residency program inInternal Medicine, Family Medicine, EmergencyMedicine

  • Successful completion ofan additional12 months of full-time training in a Sports Medicinefellowship.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required:

  • Oregon license as MD/DO

  • Board certified or eligible inInternalMedicine, Family Medicine,orEmergencyMedicine, musthave orbe eligible forCAQ in sports medicine

  • Those applicants who are not boardcertified at the time ofapplication,but who have completed their residency or fellowshiptrainingarerequiredtobecome board certified within seven years of residency or fellowshiptraining.

  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.

  • Maintainunrestricted DEA number.

  • Maintain unrestricted ability toparticipatein Medicare / Medicaid, or other federal or stategovernmental health care programs.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

  • Experiencewith concussion management and athletic team coverage

  • Must be able to wearappropriate PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE)requiredto performthe job safely.
