Job Shift: DayThe Physician Liaison & Onboarding Specialist is a dual-function role responsible for physician relationship development, referral growth, and provider integration across the organization. This position ensures smooth onboarding of new physicians while actively supporting referral network expansion, reducing leakage, and strengthening collaboration across internal and external provider groups.
This role combines business development, provider relations, onboarding coordination, and clinical integration support to improve access, efficiency, and continuity of care.
Core Responsibilities
1. Physician Liaison / Business Development
- Referral Network Growth & Management
- - Drive and monitor referral volume across referring physicians, employers, payers, and affiliated specialists
- - Identify referral leakage trends and implement corrective engagement strategies
- - Track referral performance metrics and report insights to leadership
- Relationship Management
- - Build and maintain strong relationships with referring physicians, practice administrators, and healthcare partners
- - Serve as a primary point of contact for issue resolution and service recovery
- - Conduct regular in-person and virtual outreach visits
- Market & Competitive Intelligence
- - Monitor regional healthcare trends, competitor activity, and referral shifts
- - Identify opportunities for service line growth and physician engagement
- Physician Engagement & Education
- - Promote new services, procedures, and clinical capabilities to referring providers
- - Coordinate provider education sessions and outreach presentations
- Marketing & Outreach Support
- - Partner with marketing teams on campaigns, physician events, and community outreach initiatives
- - Support planning and execution of networking events and provider forums
2. Physician Onboarding & Integration
- End-to-End Onboarding Management
- - Manage full onboarding lifecycle for new physicians from contract execution through full integration
- - Coordinate credentialing, privileging, licensing, and payer enrollment processes
- Operational & Systems Integration
- - Facilitate training on EHR systems, scheduling workflows, billing processes, and clinical protocols
- - Ensure smooth integration into ASC or practice operations, including IT onboarding and system access
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- - Collaborate with HR, Medical Staff Office, Revenue Cycle, IT, and Compliance teams
- - Oversee vendor partners supporting credentialing and onboarding workflows
- Provider Introduction & Integration
- - Facilitate introductions to clinical teams, administrative staff, and referring physician networks
- - Support early ramp-up of new providers to ensure productivity and patient access
- Compliance & Quality Alignment
- - Ensure onboarding aligns with regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements
- - Maintain documentation standards and onboarding checklists

QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, Business, Nursing, Public Health, or related field
- OR 3–5+ years of relevant experience in:
- - Physician relations
- - Healthcare business development
- - Medical staff services
- - Ambulatory surgery center or hospital operations
Core Competencies
- Strong understanding of credentialing, privileging, and healthcare compliance regulations
- Working knowledge of medical billing, reimbursement models, and revenue cycle basics
- Proven success in relationship management and provider engagement
- Experience using CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce or healthcare CRMs) for tracking referrals and outreach activity
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret referral patterns and performance data

Experience in ambulatory surgery center (ASC) environments
- Familiarity with Paycom, Athena, Epic, or similar systems
- Exposure to value-based care or clinically integrated networks (CINs)
- Experience tracking KPIs such as:
- - Referral volume growth
- - Provider ramp-up time
- - Time-to-credentialing completion
- - Leakage reduction rates
- Ability to develop dashboards or reports for leadership visibility
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel between clinic and surgery center locations
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
