Opportunity Information

Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group is seeking a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible physician with fellowship training in Integrative Medicine to develop and provide integrative oncology services at the Cancer Center in the new Sutter Santa Clara site. The physician will support patients across the cancer care continuum while also maintaining proficiency in general integrative medicine and caring for non-oncology integrative medicine patients as needed.

• Provide integrative medicine consultations for patients receiving cancer care, including assessment of symptoms, quality-of-life concerns, and supportive care needs.
• Collaborate closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, primary care, palliative care, behavioral health, nutrition, rehabilitation, and other clinical partners.
• Develop individualized, evidence-informed care plans that complement, rather than replace, standard oncology treatment.
• Counsel patients on supplements and complementary therapies, with attention to safety, contraindications, and potential interactions with cancer treatments.
• Provide trauma-informed and patient-centered care across diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship, and supportive care.
• Maintain proficiency in general integrative medicine and evaluate patients with non-oncology integrative medicine needs as appropriate.
• Participate in the development of integrative oncology workflows, referral pathways, patient education, and quality-improvement efforts at the Santa Clara Cancer Care Center.
• Work collaboratively within a multispecialty medical group and communicate recommendations clearly to referring clinicians.
• Participate in or help develop shared medical appointments or group visits when appropriate.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree with eligibility for medical licensure in California.
• Board certification or board eligibility in a primary care specialty.
• Completion of fellowship training in Integrative Medicine
• At least two years of clinical experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in integrative and functional medicine.
• Knowledge of evidence-informed complementary approaches relevant to oncology supportive care.
• Ability to practice collaboratively within an oncology care environment.
• Commitment to safe, coordinated care and clear communication with patients, families, and clinical colleagues.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Clinical experience in integrative oncology or oncology supportive care.
• Experience caring for patients with fatigue, treatment-related symptoms, gastrointestinal concerns, mental health needs, hormonal concerns, and other complex chronic conditions.
• Experience with trauma-informed care.
• Experience developing clinical programs, referral pathways, shared medical appointments, or group visits.
• For DO applicants, experience with osteopathic manipulative treatment is a plus.
