Marshfield Medical Center – Eau Claire is seeking a BC/BE General Surgeon in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
This service will provide outpatient and inpatient coverage for General Surgery needs and is not limited to but includes consultation and surgery on medical conditions involving the breast, gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract and hernias, and screening and diagnostic endoscopy. Our experts at Marshfield Clinic Health System use the latest technology and treatments to provide world-class healthcare, and work alongside dedicated colleagues and outstanding support staff.

Eau Claire, Wisconsin
Located in western Wisconsin, Eau Claire, meaning French for clear waters, is located at the confluence of the Chippewa and Eau Claire Rivers, and is considered to be one of Eau Claire’s finest assets and a valuable link to the area’s heritage. The most recent investment in the arts and live music scene is the Pablo Center at the Confluence, a 1,200+ seat theatre with an approximately 400-seat flexible theatre that has three rehearsal, dance and community rooms, visual arts galleries and more. Eau Claire is home to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College, as well as excellent public and private K-12 schools. Recreation for all seasons is close by and includes boating, fishing, golf, hiking and nature trails, bicycle trails, as well as snowmobile, cross-country ski and snowshoe areas. Eau Claire is just 75 miles east of Minneapolis/St. Paul along the I-94 corridor. General Surgery Core Privileges include the ability to admit, evaluate, diagnose and provide pre-, intra-, and postoperative care and perform surgical procedures for adolescents and adults (except where specifically excluded from practice and except for those special procedure privilege), to correct or treat various conditions, illnesses, and injuries of the alimentary tract, abdomen and its contents, breast, skin, soft tissue, head and neck, endocrine system, and minor extremity surgery. Surgery Core privileges also include the ability to provide for the on-call emergent/urgent needs of the pediatric and pre-adolescent surgical patient within the core privilege definition.
Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. degree.
Experience can be demonstrated in one of the following ways:
An applicant who has just completed a residency shall provide his/her residency or fellowship log.
OR
An applicant who is not applying directly out of a residency shall provide a quality profile from hospital(s) where he/she currently has privileges showing his/her clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures morbidity, mortality, infection rates and other complications. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.
OR
If a quality profile is not available from the hospital(s) where the applicant currently has privileges, documentation of the applicant’s clinical activity for the past 12 months is required. Applicant must be able to demonstrate active involvement in the clinical aspects of General Surgery and case volumes should show performance of at least 100 procedures in the past 12 months.
More education and experience may be required the more advanced the practice becomes.
Successful completion of a hospital affiliated surgical residency program or a clinical fellowship of at least five years’ duration accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency programs accredited by organizations other than the above.
Certification by the appropriate specialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable. Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their residency training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their residency training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement. (Refer to each entities policy for grandfather exceptions)
