The Department Chair is a member of Prisma Health System's senior leadership and as such has a shared responsibility for Prisma Health’s overall performance. At the "System" level, the Chair helps establish and achieve annual and multi-year goals. At Prisma Health, the Chair is responsible for creating and advancing interdepartmental collaboratives that drive performance of the System goals and Prisma Health priorities. At the Department level, is responsible for organizing, developing, and aligning the department to be a positive contributor to the System by advancing clinical, academic, and medical staff activities.
Accountabilities
Participates in System strategic planning through appropriate forums.
Establishes and integrates Department goals and budgets.
Leads and develops Department Vice Chairs and Department leadership.
Recruits and retains exceptional talent, working with Division Chiefs or Medical Directors (where existing).
Leads the Department peer review process and departmental physician specific interventions, including counseling, coaching, mentoring, and disciplinary action, working with Vice Chair of Medical Staff Affairs and Division Chiefs or Medical Directors (where existing), as appropriate.Seeks performance input from VP of Quality and Safety, Chief of Medical Staff Affairs, Department Vice Chairs, and Division Chiefs, as appropriate.
Manages Department within approved budgets.
Establishes and cultivates an internal, regional, and national reputation for the Department and Prisma Health.
Drives Departmental and System pillar results.
Promotes clinical integration within Department, across Prisma Health, and throughout the region.
Builds coalitions with internal and external stakeholders; collaborates with leadership across organizational boundaries.
Establishes and oversees compensation plans for Department within approved Prisma Health parameters and models.
Nurtures the System culture within Department that reflects the Prisma Health vision, mission, values, and goals.
Maintains clinical practice sufficient to assure clinical competence, obtain direct observations, provide professional credibility, and enhance social fabric.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination authority, performance appraisal responsibility and disciplinary authority. Job will be considered a member of management staff and will have direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
Medical Degree - Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
8 years - Successful Completion of Residency; Board Certified or Board Eligible; Medical Staff Privileges
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
Associate Professor status (or eligibility) at USC
South Carolina Medical License
Board Certified
South Carolina Controlled Substance License, Drug Enforcement Agency Number
