Job Description

To plan, implement and evaluate the provision of high-quality medical care, with appropriate resource management, to children and adolescents in the respective clinical area.

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s), located in Atlanta, Georgia, has an opening for a Clinical Pathologist/Hematopathologist, beginning January 1st 2027. This position will serve to assist the Director of Clinical Pathology/Chief of Pathology with administration of laboratories in this large pediatric healthcare system, including holding multiple high complexity CLIA licenses for outpatient laboratories, and partaking in the hematopathology service. The Clinical Pathologist will join a group of 20 faculty members. Knowledge and interest in immunology is also highly desired. The department is known for outstanding pediatric clinical and anatomic pathology. Successful candidates should have technical excellence and good interpersonal skills, allowing for productive interaction with technical staff, other department faculty, and caregivers.

Qualifications include:

• Doctor of Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine
• Successful completion of post-graduate pathology residency training program
• Board certified or eligible in Clinical Pathology
• Board certified or eligible in Hematopathology
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Georgia

Children’s is a dynamic, growing environment with marked expansion of the hematology/oncology division in the past few years, including growth in bone marrow transplantation and immune dysregulation, among other major areas of growth. The role also carries medical directorship duties. Board certification or eligibility in hematopathology is required, but interest in informatics, molecular genetic pathology, or other areas such as pediatric pathology would also be desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and families and as a team member.
• Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff.
• Demonstrates the following skills in accomplishing job duties and responsibilities: personal organization and time management, human relations and teamwork, personal adaptability, personal motivation, and listening.

Job Responsibilities

• Provides patient care within the respective clinical area which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and Children’s policies and procedures.
• Participates in and incorporates Quality Improvement and research findings into practice.
• Provides and/or serves as a resource for patient/family and staff education.
• Educate and assist trainees with medical decision making.
• Provides an authenticated report of all physician services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner.
• Completes necessary documentation and ensures timely communication to facilitate patient care and appropriate reimbursement.
• Actively responds to patient and clinical staff questions and requests.
• Participates in meetings/activities as required to support operations of the clinical area.
• Participates in activities that enhance professional development, complete, and maintain certification in BLS, PALS, or NALS and maintains any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the area assigned.
• Performs other responsibilities as required.
