We are seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join our established Pulmonary team in a rewarding outpatient-focused role.

Position Highlights
Monday–Friday schedule, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
No call responsibilities
No weekends
No holidays
35 hours of patient-facing time each week
Care for a mix of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine patients

The Pulmonology Physician Assistant’s role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients at Altru, providing comprehensive care for injuries and illnesses. The Pulmonology Physician Assistants’ responsibilities include counseling patients on preventive healthcare measures and exercising professional judgment in alignment with Altru’s policies and standards. The position requires achieving annual Patient Engagement and Quality & Safety goals, supporting department objectives, and maintaining accurate and timely documentation to ensure quality patient care and appropriate reimbursement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides patient/patient’s family with appropriate education based on the patient’s condition and identifies needs in order to optimize understanding. Provides health maintenance and disease management counseling to patients.

  • Obtains comprehensive medical histories, performs physical examinations/assessments and initiates admission orders as appropriate.

  • Participates in plans for health promotion, prevention and maintenance for the Altru Health System, the community and region.

  • Provides medical management and/or other interventions for acute and chronic health problems.

  • Performs invasive, life-saving bedside procedures
  • Conducts daily rounds, review diagnostic tests, and formulate personalized treatments plans with multidisciplinary approach.
  • Performs endoscopy-based procedures to diagnose and treat airway and pleural diseases.
  • Writes orders for prescription medication under the established protocol.
  • Orders and interprets lab studies and diagnostic tests to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment as appropriate. Notifies patients promptly of test results. Collaborates with physicians, as necessary, to verify diagnosis, identify high-risk situations, or alerts to changes in patient’s status and takes appropriate action.

  • Serves as a liaison and a resource for physician, health care team members, patients and families.

  • Performs pain assessment and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

  • Physician Assistant | National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) | Prior to Start Date | HR Primary Sources
