
Temporary assignment for approximately 52 weeks
Under the delegation of a Supervising Orthopaedic Surgeon, the role of the Physician Assistant is to coordinate and evaluate patient care for selected patients within the area. The Orthopaedic Surgery PA will work for surgeons in the Fracture and Orthopaedic clinic at St Joe’s, and across emergent and inpatient areas.
Key Responsibilities:
•Perform patient consultations, histories, and comprehensive assessments, including pre- and post operative surgical assessments.
•Assist with treatment planning, follow-up care, and patient education
•Perform joint injections and other procedures within the PA scope
•Order and interpret diagnostic tests
•Collaborate with surgeons, residents, fellows, medical students, nurses, and allied health staff
•Contribute to clinic flow and coordination of care
Research Involvement:
The PA will also participate in ongoing orthopaedic research initiatives focused on robotic surgery, enhanced recovery pathways, and emerging musculoskeletal technologies. The PA will collaborate with our innovative research team, supporting study coordination, data collection, and implementation of new technologies and care pathways that advance evidence-based practice.
Qualifications:
•Graduate of MOHLTC- approved program including the Canadian Forces Physician Assistant Training Program, Graduate of a Canadian or American Physician Assistant Training Program
•Successful completion of the Canadian PA Certificate exam
•BCLS, ACLS certificates required
•Certification by the National Council for Assistants (American trained Physician Assistants only)
•Experience in an orthopaedic setting
•Experience with shared decision-making and leadership techniques
•Interest in working with learners of varying levels of experience
•Demonstrated expertise in decision-making and evidence based practice
•Effective problem solving skills
•Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development
•Excellent oral and written communication
•Creative and flexible problem solving and critical thinking skills
•Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative practice model with an interdisciplinary team
•Demonstrated change management skills
Hours of Work:
Monday-Friday, may include weekends.
