The Physician Assistant (PA) functions in an interdependent role by implementing the appropriate “Delegation of Services Agreement” (DSA). Under Title 16, Article 4 of the California Code of Regulations. Section 1399.540 states “A physician assistant may only provide those medical services which he or she is competent to perform and which are consistent with the physician assistant’s education, training and experience and which are delegated in writing by a supervising physician who is responsible for the patients cared for by that physician assistant.”By using the DSA the PA is able to change treatment regimen after observing signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to treatment, general behavior and physical condition, and determine if they are abnormal findings (Physician Assistant Business and Professions Code section 3502 and 3502.1 and Section 1399.545 of Title 16 of the California Code of Regulations). Provide and coordinate the care of oncology patients, provide patient/family education, promote safe continuity of care. Participate in interdisciplinary and clinical rounds, provide education and support as well as make appropriate referrals.Document services rendered.
