Job Description

of Performance Expectations:
The Physician Assistant (PA) or Neonatal Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive care to healthy term and late preterm newborns in a Level I Newborn Nursery under the supervision of a licensed pediatrician. The PA/NNP is responsible for routine newborn assessments, daily management, discharge planning, family education, and coordination of care in accordance with AAP guidelines, hospital policies, and state regulations.
The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner exercises a high degree of professional responsibility, accountability and independent judgement in the performance of advanced nursing practice. Possesses in-depth knowledge of the care and treatment of well newborns and neonatal patients with specialized needs.
Education and Credentials:

Required
PA-Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current NC license. NCCPA Certified. NRP certification required and PALS or BCLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required within three months of employment date.

NNP- Master’s degree with clinical emphasis and/or has graduated from a formal post-basic nursing education program resulting in certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
•Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
•Current NC RN license or licensure from Nursing Compact State. Approved to perform medical acts by the joint sub-committee of the NC Board of Nursing and NC Board of Medical Examiners.
•BCLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). If the BCLS certification is not from the American Heart Association (AHA), an AHA certification is required within three months of employment date.
NRP Certification.

Work Experience:

Required
Newborn care experience. Given training and on-the-job experience incumbent should be proficient in the basic aspects of the job within three months of employment date.
