Organization:

ABSMC-Alta Bates Summit Med CenterSutter Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is seeking an experienced Cardiac Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) to join our inpatient cardiac services team at our advanced tertiary cardiac center.

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center is a 450-bed facility located in downtown Oakland, serving as the tertiary cardiac referral center for the Greater East Bay. We provide a comprehensive, cutting-edge cardiac program that includes:
• General cardiology
• Advanced cardiac imaging (cardiac CT and MRI)
• Cardiac surgery

Our cardiac program is supported by approximately 20 cardiologists and 3 cardiothoracic surgeons.

The Cardiac APC will:

Work collaboratively under the supervision of on-site cardiologists
Provide comprehensive inpatient cardiac care, including:
Pre-procedure evaluations
Post-procedure evaluations
Managing cardiac discharges and coordinating with the hospitalist team
Follow-up inpatient assessments
Evaluating new inpatient or Emergency Department consults
Triage of urgent and emergent cardiac patients
Participation in the post-cardiac-discharge Transition of Care Clinic

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Master's: Nursing

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

  • NP-California Nurse Practitioner by California Department of Consumer Affairs
  • NP-F - Nurse Practitioner Furnishing
  • RN-California Registered Nurse
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider
  • Certification required based on the department requirements

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 5 years of recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated general knowledge and competence with regard to advanced nursing theories, concepts and practices; medical terminology; anatomy; and physiology.
  • Working knowledge of the healthcare industry, safety precaution policies, best practices regarding patient care and privacy, and changes in local/state/federal regulations.
  • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
  • Basic knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Outlook), Electronic Health Record.
  • Prioritize and delegate assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.
  • Identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.
  • Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).
  • Build collaborate relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives

EDUCATION:

Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program

LICENSURES & CERTIFICATIONS

PA-Physician Assistant

CSRC-Controlled Substance Registered Certification (DEA)

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

1 year in Cardiac Surgical Experience.

1 year of Vein Harvesting Surgical Experience.

2 years of recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Demonstrates knowledge of patient care guidelines/policy as evidenced by quality of documentation.

Medical knowledge and skills applicable to perform within the scope of practice.

Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.

Working knowledge of electronic health records such as EPIC.

Critical thinking skills as it relates to specialized departments this may include the ability to complete age-appropriate assessments

Communication skills (verbal, written and listening) with ability to work effectively across the organization, especially in situations requiring instructing, persuading, negotiating, consulting and advising.

Technical and analytical skills for analysis and interpretation of test procedures and results in order to determine appropriate correction actions

Interpersonal skills with the ability to work with and collaborate across the organization and with patients and their families as needed

Ability to effectively lead, mentor and/or develop others

Ability to maintain composure during challenging interpersonal interactions

Pay Range is $193,024.00 to $279,884.80 / annual salary

The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
