Job Description

Under the supervision of staff physicians, the Physician Assistant will provide primary health care services as a member of a health care team comprised of hospital physicians, mid-level practitioners and nursing personnel. Primary responsibilities relate to management of health care for certain patients and families as assigned.

POSITION SCHEDULE & ENVIRONMENT

CRSM – Indianapolis position working in Pulmonary Critical Care with a traditional schedule:

  • 7A – 5P daytime shift
  • Pulmonary Critical Care at Franciscan South Campus, Indy Location
  • 7 days on / 7 days off

SUMMARY OF DUTIES

  • Performance of health assessments, including a thorough history and physical examination, ordering or performing certain diagnostic tests, evaluation of the psychosocial and family aspects of the situation sufficient to make a general health assessment, and diagnose the nature of common acute and chronic conditions.
  • Referral of complex and high-priority cases to the physician on duty regarding complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems, re-evaluation of chronic conditions, etc.
  • Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment. Provides patient education.
  • Triages calls from nursing staff regarding patient issues.
  • Completes all documentation requirements into the EMR system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Indiana license to practice the duties of a Physician Assistant
  • Certification in BLS and ACLS
  • Acute Care Experience or Training a Plus
  • Ability to relate well with patients and other health care personnel
  • Ability to work as a team member

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduated from a certified Physician Assistant or related program, which entails training as well as practice in the above-mentioned duties.
  • Prefer previous experience providing medical care within a hospital or clinical environment.
  • Current Indiana license to practice the duties of a Physician Assistant
