The Per Diem Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive medical care to surgical patients under the supervision of attending surgeons. This role supports perioperative patient management, including preoperative evaluation, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative care. The PA functions as an integral member of the surgical care team, delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with hospital policies, clinical protocols, and regulatory requirements. Applicant will be trained in a variety of surgical subspecialties including Trauma/Acute Care Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Colorectal, Bariatric, Vascular, Thoracic, Pediatric Surgery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform medical assessments, including obtaining medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and reviewing diagnostic data
Provide perioperative patient care, including preoperative evaluation, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative management, consistent with granted privileges
Assist in surgical procedures within the scope of practice, training, experience, and hospital authorization
Document all patient encounters, procedures, and clinical decisions in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner
Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies and laboratory tests as permitted by licensure and privileges
Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions in compliance with state law, hospital policy, and delegated authority
Coordinate patient care and communicate effectively with supervising physicians and interdisciplinary care teams
Respond to consults and provide clinical coverage as assigned
Adhere to patient safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and quality assurance requirements
Maintain compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and risk management practices
Compliance and Other Duties
Maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education
Comply with confidentiality, HIPAA, and information security policies
Perform other duties as assigned to meet organizational needs
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an ARC-PA–accredited Physician Assistant program
CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, & LICENSURES:
Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification
Current, unrestricted state Physician Assistant license or eligibility for licensure
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Eligibility for hospital credentialing and privileging
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a surgical or perioperative setting, preferred but not required
Employment Status and Schedule
Per diem / as needed
Work hours and shifts are variable and based on departmental and operational needs, which may include weekends. No nights, holidays or on-call.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and remain in stationary positions for extended periods
Ability to perform repetitive motions and maintain manual dexterity required for surgical procedures
Ability to lift, move, or position patients and equipment in accordance with hospital safety policies
Work performed in operating rooms, inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and other clinical environments
Compensation Range:
$53.85- $78.13
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
