Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, treat and manage adult and pediatric patients in an inpatient hospital setting.
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols.
  • Provide phone consultation to pediatric-trained attendings for management of the adult patients on the census.
  • Receive guidance from pediatricians when covering pediatric patients on the census.
  • Collaborate with nurses, APPs, ancillary staff, respiratory therapists, social worker, case manager and those positions on the clinical team.
  • Work with families/loved ones to provide health services, education, counseling and emotional support.
  • Issue and manage medication prescriptions in accordance with treatment guidelines. Order laboratory tests, interpret and explain test results.
  • Provide education regarding medications, risks, benefits and reasonable outcome expectations.
  • Communicate with residents and engage in follow-up as necessary.
  • Supervise clinical providers (APPs, Nurses) and provide performance feedback in all aspects of clinical functions.
  • Continually review current standards of care and work with leadership team to implement new processes as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • New Family Medicine and Internal Medicine residency graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Active New York State medical license, or the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
  • One to two years of Adult Hospitalist experience preferred, but not required.

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of a US residency program in internal medicine or med-peds
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
