Responsibilities

Physical Therapist Assistants at VNH, under the supervision of a registered Physical Therapist and in accordance with agency policies and state practice, act as a member of the rehabilitation staff, providing physical therapy services according to a patient plan of care.

The PTA will:

  • Provide treatment to patients as prescribed by physician and after initial and periodic evaluation of patient’s physical therapy and rehabilitation needs have been established by a RPT. When PTA is going to be following a new patient, the RPT will make the initial evaluation visit and assign care to the PTA as appropriate.
  • Treat patients within plan of care developed with RPT to relieve pain, develop or restore function, and maintain maximum performance using physical means, such as exercise, massage, heat, water, light and electricity.
  • Direct and aid patients in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait and functional training, activities of daily living including transfer activities and prosthetic training.
  • Make use of equipment such as ultra-violet and infrared lamps, low voltage generation, diathermy and ultrasonic machines.
  • Observe, record, and reports to the RPT the patient’s reaction to treatment and change in patient’s condition.
  • Teach the patient and caregivers self-care techniques and activities as appropriate.
  • Arrange with health agency for use of equipment that is available to patients.
  • Complete and submit accurate and relevant clinical notes and required documentation in a timely manner in accordance with expected agency standards.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in Vermont and New Hampshire or hold a compact license.
  • Graduate of an accredited school as a Physical Therapy Assistant

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience as a PTA in a home health care setting is preferred

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Unencumbered PTA license in VT and NH or compact.
