Job Description

Position: Physical Therapist II EX, Physical Therapy

Location: Brighton, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week, On-site

The Physical Therapist II conducts comprehensive assessments of inpatients with physical and functional deficits, planning and implementing physical therapy treatments to promote mobility, reduce pain, restore function, prevent permanent disability and restore independence, using various treatment techniques. Collaborates with other disciplines to arrange for appropriate follow-up care and facilitates a successful return to home and work environments. Provides student and new hire training according to departmental guidelines and participates in continuing education.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Conducts physical therapy evaluation procedures according to professional and departmental guidelines. 

  • Responds to all consults in assigned area within 24 hours;completesevaluation and documentation.

  • Reviews patient records, gathers necessary information, andclarifiesphysician’sordersprior to assessing the patient. 

  • Selects evaluation procedures that reflect understanding of the patient’s diagnosis, abilities, and limitations. 

  • Administers evaluation procedures according to the guidelines of standardized tests (including range of motion, manual muscle testing,balance,mobility); adapts evaluation procedures asindicatedto accommodate the specific needs of patients. 

  • Interprets evaluation results, develops an integrated diagnostic impression, and makes recommendations. 

  • Performs re-evaluations according to departmental policies, change inpatient’sstatusor response to treatment. 

  • Educates patient and caregiverregardingevaluationfindings and management of care recommendations. 

  • Establishes treatment goals and plans that reflect the needs of the patients while meeting departmental, institutional, andthird-partyreimbursement requirements. 

  • Formulates treatment goals and plans that reflect the patient’s unique psychological and functional deficits. 

  • Establishes measurable and attainable short and long-term goals in collaboration withpatientand/or caregiver. 

  • Modifies goals aswarrantedby changes inpatient’sstatus. 

  • Assesses discharge needs of the patient and caregiver, including but not limitedto:insurance issues, equipment needs, follow-up appointments, and appropriate use of community services. 

  • Communicates patient care and discharge needs to team members as needed.Arrangesforappropriate follow-up

  • Implements comprehensive treatment.

  • Establishes treatment priorities based onevaluationresults and the specific needs of the patients. 

  • Usescreative treatment approaches andexploresalternative solutions to individual patient problems. 

  • Demonstrates clinicalcritical thinking skillswith a variety of patient problems and substantiates actions taken. 

  • Progresses patient treatment programs appropriately andterminatesthem aswarrantedbypatient’sprogress and condition. 

  • Recommends and/or issuesappropriate assistivedevices or durable medical equipment, ensuring that it properly fits the patient. 

  • Develops and instructspatientand caregiver in home programs and/or use of recommended equipment; provides verbal and/or written instructions asindicated

  • Establishes andmaintainsa therapeutic relationship with all patients. Adheres to diagnosis-related precautions.

  • Complies withdepartmental, institutional, and accrediting agency policies and standards. 

  • Completes documentation in anaccurate andtimelymanner according to department standards. Completes patient care charges accurately.

  • Meets area specific productivity standards at least 95% of the time.Identifiesproblems andadjuststomeet targeted productivity. 

  • Participates in the peer review process. Completes form thoroughly, gives meaningful and constructive feedback, and provides learning experience topeer

  • Shows evidence ofon-goingprofessional growth and knowledge of regulations and standards. 

  • Initiates independent learning opportunities, seeksoutand integratesnew informationin daily practice. Communicates learning needs tomanager. 

  • Stays current with advances in physical therapy treatments and techniques through attendance of professional meetings, continuing education, and reading of current literature. 

  • Shows knowledge of professional federal and state rules and regulations governing the practice of physical therapy. 

  • Participates in the development and evaluation of physical therapyprograms.

  • Contributes to the development and updating ofclinical service line programsand other pertinent resource material. 

  • Collectsdatarequiredto complete departmental quality improvement projects in compliance with established department standards. 

  • Contributes to the assessment, planning, and implementation of physical therapy programs in collaboration withmanagerand peers. 

  • Collaborates with colleagues and other professionals to provide high quality patient care.

  • Serves asclinicalresource for other health care professionals on assigned floors.Instructs andassistsancillary and otherpersonnelas necessary

  • Works as part of the rehabilitation therapy team, helping and supporting staffmembers asneeded;listensto andseeksfeedback from others;sharesknowledge with others inpositivemanner;expressesopinions clearly. 

  • Attends andparticipatesin all mandatory department meetings.  Arrives prepared and on time. 

  • Accepts and completesadditionalassignments as requested bymanager, including membership in department and hospital task forces and committees. 

  • Provides at least one evidence-based area in-service annually. Provides in-services to other hospital personnel asrequested

  • Participates responsibly in theperformance reviewprocess, follows through on suggestions and recommendations, andutilizesnon-productivetime for own professional growth. Comes preparedtoannual appraisalmeetings. 

  • Develops and meets annual goals with a high quality of performance. 

  • Engages with manageron departmental initiatives and projects. Takes responsibility for tasks and projects and completes underguidanceof manager

  • Assistsin orientation of newly hiredPT staffto hospital.Supervises physicaltherapystudents. 

  • Participates inorientationofnewly hiredstaff to hospital floors covered and verifies clinical competence on specialty areasasappropriateProvides a well-rounded learning experience foraffiliatingphysical therapy students. 

  • Communicates withmanagerabout progress with orientation ofnew staffto ensureabilityto functionindependently.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIREDEDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s/Doctorate or equivalent in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 2years’ experience as a licensed PT including 1 year in acute care

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • ICU experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current Commonwealth of Massachusetts license.
  • Current CPR certification. 
  • APTA and MCAPTA membership preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Meets or exceeds performance standards forminimumof two years at PT Level I at SEMC or the equivalent.
  • Meets basic competencylevelof two clinical rotations.

Expected to work one Saturday per month

Compensation Range:

$75,500.00- $109,500.00

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
