Physical Therapist II, Full-Time Days

***$1500 Dollar Sign-On Bonus***

In alignment with the UCM Mission, Vision, and Values, the Level II Physical Therapist provides comprehensive assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals within an assigned level of care of the Therapy Services department. This role involves delivering patient care, actively participating in performance and quality improvement initiatives, contributing to clinical research and enhancing evidence-based practice.

Reporting to a supervisor, manager or director, the Level II Physical Therapist receives ongoing orientation, coaching, and mentoring from Program Coordinators, Level II/III therapists and leadership. Additionally, this position plays a key role in mentoring PT/PTA students, post-graduate trainees, less experienced therapists, and other health care providers and ensuring high-quality patient care and professional development within the team and across the organization.

Essential Job Functions:

Patient Evaluation:

  • Conducts comprehensive evaluations using appropriate tests and measurements to determine physical therapy problems, functional levels, and recommended treatment plans.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to establish patient disposition.

Patient-Centered Care:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and applies patient care protocols that address the physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric populations.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Adheres to departmental policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Actively participates or leads performance and quality improvement activities.

Intervention Planning and Implementation:

  • Develops physical therapy interventions in collaboration with the patient/family, referring practitioner and treatment team goals.
  • Competently performs appropriate physical therapy techniques and procedures.

Care Coordination:

  • Ensures continuity of care through timely and effective written and verbal communication with team members and other treating disciplines, particularly when planning absences.
  • Attends rounds, conferences, and clinics as assigned, providing patient updates and discharge recommendations.

Discharge Planning:

  • Identifies and recommends necessary patient care equipment prior to discharge and assists with procurement as appropriate.

Documentation and Billing:

  • Accurately documents evaluations, progress notes, and all procedures performed within established timeframes.
  • Completes compliant, timely, and accurate patient billing at the end of each day.

Education:

  • Instructs patients and families in home exercise programs.
  • Provides education on therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plans.

Professional Engagement & Leadership:

  • Seeks an advanced level of practice or specialty.
  • Participates in departmental and/or organizational committees as assigned.
  • Assumes lead responsibility in the absence of the supervisor or manager as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires graduation from an approved physical therapy school.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ clinical physical therapy experience.
  • Declaration of intent to develop advanced, clinical knowledge and skills in a focused area of clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated sustained active engagement in performance and quality improvement initiatives and/or program development.
  • Completion of APTA CI Credentialing Course
  • Requires current physical therapy license in the State of Illinois (or eligibility to practice) and
  • CPR/BLS certification

Skills:

  • Advanced clinical knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-specific and appropriate care for the patient populations served.
  • Demonstrated consistent accomplishment of basic accountabilities and initiative and leadership to take on additional responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in supervision and mentorship of staff and students.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, the multidisciplinary team, and external partners.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
