Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$53.590 - $65.640 - $77.700

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

The Physical Therapist-Certified Hand Therapist provides individualized and quality evaluations, assessments, prognoses, treatments and education to meet each patient's needs based on medical necessity and clinical indication in accordance with the Physical Therapy Practice Act and Title 16 requirements. This is a highly specialized Physical Therapist / Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) role focused exclusively on the evaluation and rehabilitation of the hand, wrist, and elbow, including fabrication of custom orthoses/splints and rehabilitation of complex post-surgical tendon and nerve reconstructions. These services will be provided in settings across the entire continuum of care including inpatient acute care, inpatient acute rehabilitation, and outpatient services. Adheres to professional standards of conduct and ethics as outlined by department expectations and professional organizations. Maintains productivity, weekend and holiday requirements as specified. Ongoing professional development, and continuing education to promote clinical excellence and evidence-based practice. Assists patients in reaching their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Other Graduate of an approved professional school or graduate of an accredited college or university with a degree in Physical Therapy, with post-graduate specialization/coursework in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation.
  • 3 Years experience as a Physical Therapist.
  • Competent in provision of Physical Therapy modalities, interventions, and procedures specific to hand, wrist, and elbow rehabilitation, including custom splinting /orthotic fabrication and post-surgical nerve repair protocols.
  • California Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) - CA Physical Therapy Board -REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
  • Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) - Hand Therapy Certification Commission -REQUIRED

Essential Functions

  • 1. Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
  • 2. Accurately perform individualized and quality evaluations, assessments, prognoses, treatments and education to patients and families/caregivers.
  • 3. Provide highly specialized evaluation and treatment limited to the hand, wrist, and elbow, distinct from general Physical Therapy practice.
  • 4. Fabricate, fit, and adjust custom static, static-progressive, and dynamic orthoses/splints specific to the hand, wrist, and elbow.
  • 5. Design and progress post-surgical rehabilitation protocols for complex tendon and nerve reconstructions, in coordination with referring surgeons.
  • 6. Serve as a clinical resource to the interdisciplinary team on upper extremity/hand therapy
  • 7. Provide care in inpatient acute care, inpatient acute rehabilitation, and/or outpatient settings based on patient care and business needs.
  • 8. Meet weekend and holiday requirements based on FTE status.
  • 9. Independently assess all areas relevant to patient function, utilize sound clinical decision making skills, develop a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan, and complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • 10. Accurately enters data into Electronic Health Record System
  • 11. Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • 12. Provide mentorship as requested (voluntary)
  • 13. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager.

  • Knowledge and proficiency of standard office equipment (i.e., fax, photocopier), personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, internet).
