Job Description

Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) | PRN | Summerville

The Village at Summerville | Summerville, South Carolina | In-House Nonprofit

Not all PRN therapy jobs feel the same. Some feel transactional. Some feel disconnected. Some feel like you’re walking into a building simply to cover treatments and chase productivity.

This isn’t one of them.

At The Village at Summerville, you become part of an established in-house therapy team within Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC) — a respected nonprofit senior living organization where therapists collaborate closely, patient care comes before quotas, and relationships matter.

Our PRN clinicians are not viewed as “extra coverage.” They are valued members of the team who help support meaningful patient outcomes across the continuum of care.

If you enjoy working with older adults, value flexibility, and want to practice in a supportive clinical environment where quality and teamwork still matter, we would love to connect with you.

Why Therapists Choose This Team

  • In-house nonprofit therapy model
  • Therapist-directed clinical care
  • No contract therapy productivity culture
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Flexible PRN scheduling
  • Full continuum of care on one campus
  • Supportive, team-oriented environment
  • Opportunities to stay clinically engaged and continue growing

A Different Kind of Therapy Environment

Many clinicians today are looking for:

  • More meaningful patient interaction
  • Better collaboration and communication
  • Greater clinical autonomy
  • Less pressure around unrealistic productivity expectations
  • A stronger connection to the residents and community they serve

That is exactly what our in-house therapy model was designed to support.

At The Village at Summerville, therapy is integrated into the daily life of the community. Clinicians work closely with nursing, physicians, and interdisciplinary leaders to support coordinated, patient-centered care across multiple levels of service.

What Makes Summerville Unique

1. Full Continuum of Care

Treat residents across:

  • Short-term rehab
  • Long-term care
  • Assisted living
  • Independent living
  • Outpatient services

This creates variety, continuity of care, and the opportunity to build meaningful long-term relationships with residents.

2. Strong Clinical Exposure

Work with residents recovering from:

  • Orthopedic surgeries
  • Neurological conditions
  • Balance and mobility impairments
  • Generalized weakness and deconditioning
  • Complex medical hospitalizations

3. A Welcoming Team Culture

Our therapy department is known for:

  • Strong teamwork
  • Clinical collaboration
  • Consistent communication
  • Accountability with support
  • A positive and respectful work environment

Even in a PRN role, clinicians remain connected to the team and integrated into department communication and collaboration.

Leadership & Professional Growth

Our Director of Rehabilitation fosters an environment where clinicians are encouraged to:

  • Collaborate openly
  • Share clinical insight
  • Continue developing their skills
  • Take ownership of patient outcomes
  • Support one another as teammates

We believe strong clinical teams are built through mentorship, trust, accountability, and shared purpose. The department also participates in student clinical education, creating opportunities to support and mentor future clinicians.

Your Role as a PRN PTA

As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will help residents regain mobility, independence, confidence, and functional ability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing treatment plans developed by the supervising Physical Therapist
  • Progressing therapeutic interventions based on patient performance
  • Delivering skilled therapy focused on mobility, balance, gait, strength, and functional independence
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team
  • Supporting continuity of care through communication and documentation
  • Treating residents across multiple settings within the community as needed

PRN Flexibility Without Feeling Disconnected

Our PRN therapists benefit from scheduling flexibility while still remaining part of a consistent, supportive clinical team.

We prioritize:

  • Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Consistency
  • Respect for clinicians and their schedules

This creates an environment where PRN staff can step in confidently and feel connected to both the team and the residents they serve.

What We Offer

1. Flexible Scheduling

  • PRN scheduling based on availability and department needs
  • Opportunity to pick up hours across multiple care settings

2. Professional Growth

  • Access to MedBridge education resources
  • Exposure to a wide range of diagnoses and treatment approaches
  • Collaboration with experienced clinicians

3. Supportive Clinical Culture

  • Team-oriented environment
  • Consistent communication
  • Mission-driven nonprofit organization
  • Leadership support and mentorship

Who Thrives Here

You will likely thrive in this role if you:

  • Enjoy working collaboratively with therapists and interdisciplinary teams
  • Value patient-centered care over quota-driven care
  • Appreciate flexibility while still feeling connected to a team
  • Take pride in helping older adults improve independence and quality of life
  • Communicate well and adapt to varying patient needs
