Job Description

Protect all bank property and assets such as employees, buildings, equipment and premises. Conduct site security surveys and audits for bank facilities. Perform safety and security functions for assigned areas. Assist as necessary, with the protection of bank employees and assets and ensure a safe and secure environment during events and executive protection details. Must be a self starter, efficient person who is capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision.

Provides security related support to assigned region responding to calls for service from bank and other Synovus building personnel concerning suspicious or criminal activity. Monitors the threat environment and develops appropriate counter-measures to respond to emerging physical security threats. Serves as the point of contact and liaison between Corporate Security and external law enforcement agencies regarding bank robberies, damage to property and other non-fraud related events that may pose a threat to team members, customers or the general public. Coordinates robbery preparedness and business continuity training initiatives for bank team members.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides security related support to assigned region working closely with bank management and team members in the assessment, investigation and resolution of various complaints, suspicious activity and other security related incidents. Acts as primary contact for damages to banks or bank property as a result of criminal activity.
  • Assist with corporate security special projects as necessary.
  • Conduct annual risk surveys and audits to identify risks and vulnerabilities. Maintain a database of facilities. Develop corrective actions to upgrade the physical posture of the location surveyed and provide these corrective actions.
  • Assist with the Executive Protection Program. Assist, as necessary, with protective services details. Help coordinate security/logistical planning with Protective Services Manager, executive support staff, security personnel of other organizations, event planners, law enforcement personnel, etc... Help the security department foster good relationships and promote corporate responsibility among all lines of business during special events. Must be able to articulate in a competent & professional manner with various lines of businesses regarding security related matters.
  • Conducts investigations of incidents by applying the appropriate investigative techniques and utilizing internal/external technology sources and contacts to gather comprehensive evidentiary materials. Refers appropriate activity to law enforcement for criminal or civil prosecution.
  • Serves as a point of contact with external law enforcement agencies providing direct assistance and support regarding criminal investigations. Maintains physical file containing all information and videos pertaining to robberies. Obtains photographs from digital video recorders. Prepares and files reports as necessary.
  • Works with Security System team and other Security staff in response to alarms and emergencies. Coordinates emergency situations, monitors emergency activities and keeps appropriate personnel informed. Conducts robbery risk assessments.
  • Coordinates security awareness and emergency preparedness education activities for Synovus team members. Maintains and distributes education Works closely with Learning and Development in the identification of training needs and the development of training curriculum and strategy.
  • Participates as a member of the Security team and makes recommendations for enhancing the delivery of security and protection of personnel, property and assets against fire, theft vandalism, terrorism, and all illegal and unauthorized activity. Assesses internal controls and procedures associated with assigned cases, identifying control breakdowns and making recommendations to prevent future losses.
  • Complies with regulatory requirements and applicable Security policies and procedures. Manages the security of highly sensitive information related to investigations. Maintains relationships with law enforcement peers and regulatory agencies to stay current on issues affecting the company. Adheres to established on-call schedule.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a related discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience:

Three years of bank security experience or prior law enforcement or military training or any applicable Corporate Security and Executive Protection experience including experience using video management systems, Access Control and security alarm systems, risk/vulnerability assessments.

Certifications:

CPR/AED certification, valid driver's license and eligibility for a weapons carry license applicable to assigned location are all required. Must complete and pass a state certified firearms qualification course within six months of hire date.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Applicable knowledge of criminal statutes in all five states within the Synovus footprint.
  • Working knowledge of common Executive Protection techniques
  • Investigative interviewing skills.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and ability to respond to stressful situations with confidence while remaining calm.
  • Proficiency navigating multiple computer systems, applications, and search tools.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software products including Word and Excel.
