Physical Education Teacher and Coach
Full Time
To begin August 2026
Overview:
The Spence School is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Physical Education teacher and Athletics Coach to begin in the Fall of 2026. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum that promotes physical fitness, skill development, teamwork and lifelong wellness, and for coaching at least one Middle and/or Upper School team.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop and implement engaging physical education lessons aligned with Shape America National Standards and curriculum goals.
- Teach a variety of units including upper school elective offerings such as outdoor cycling, inline skating, yoga, pilates and other lifetime fitness activities.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs, interests and abilities of diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional practices.
- Assess student performance using a variety of formative and summative methods.
- Integrate technology to enhance learning outcomes and engagement.
- Coach one or more varsity and/or middle-school level team, preferably lacrosse, softball or soccer

- Enjoys a commitment that extends beyond the classroom, including contributions to the larger school community
- Has sustained teaching experience with middle and upper school students
- Ability to design standards-based instruction that supports motor skill development, fitness, responsible behavior and lifelong physical activity.
- Has experience coaching women’s lacrosse, softball or soccer (preferred)
- Possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
