About the Role

The Phone Repair Technician restores returned and repossessed phones to full functionality through efficient, reliable, and quality-focused repairs. The role involves diagnosing technical faults, performing component-level repairs, and conducting quality assurance tests.

The technician handles hardware and software faults, including screen and battery replacements, operating system troubleshooting, and wireless and network performance issues. The role also covers component recovery, device refurbishment, spare parts management, and inventory tracking in SAP.

What you will be expected to do

Perform Functional Tests to Triage Damaged Devices and Diagnose Failures

• Run diagnostic software and hardware checks on incoming devices, covering battery health, display, cameras, speakers/microphones, sensors, buttons, charging ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular performance.
• Classify and route devices by fault category and repair complexity, including cosmetic damage, component replacement, and software faults.
• Identify devices that fall outside the repair scope or are beyond economical repair (BER).

Disassemble, Test, and Replace Defective Components

• Safely disassemble devices using precision tools, including spudgers, precision screwdrivers, heat guns/plates, and suction tools, while preventing damage to surrounding components.
• Isolate faulty parts through component-level testing, including multimeter checks, continuity tests, and swap testing.
• Replace defective parts, including screens, batteries, cameras, charging ports, speakers, buttons, and electrical terminals, using OEM-approved components.

Test and Recover Components and External Housings for Reuse

• Assess removed components, including screens, batteries, cameras, and small parts, for reuse potential.
• Clean, refurbish, and certify housings, frames, and back covers for reuse where cosmetic and structural conditions meet required standards.
• Segregate recovered parts for inventory and route non-reusable parts for disposal or recycling in line with company policy.
• Maintain accurate records of recovered and scrapped components.

Reassemble Devices in Line with Approved Work Instructions

• Follow model-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for reassembly sequences, torque specifications, and adhesive/seal application.
• Apply the correct adhesives, gaskets, and shielding to maintain water and dust resistance ratings, where applicable.
• Verify component seating and electrical contact engagement before closing device housings.
• Apply electrostatic discharge (ESD) safety procedures throughout the repair and reassembly process.

Perform Full Functional, Cosmetic, and RF Testing

• Run comprehensive post-repair diagnostics covering touchscreen operation, display, audio, camera, sensors, and battery charging/discharge.
• Conduct RF testing for cellular signal, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS to verify wireless and network performance against specifications.
• Inspect and grade cosmetic condition, including housing, screen, and ports, against company grading standards.
• Record test results and assign the final pass/fail status and device grade before transferring units to the warehouse.

Identify and Implement Process Improvements

• Report recurring defects, component failure patterns, and workflow bottlenecks to the team supervisor or supervisor.
• Recommend improvements to work instructions, tooling, and testing procedures based on repair findings.
• Participate in root-cause investigations when rework or device return rates increase.
• Contribute to updates of technical documentation and training materials as repair processes evolve.

Manage Spare Parts and Finished Goods Inventory

• Record spare parts consumption in SAP at the point of use, including screens, batteries, cameras, and electrical terminals, linking each transaction to the correct device or work order.
• Post completed repaired or refurbished units into SAP with the correct material code, grade, and storage location.
• Process goods receipts for incoming spare parts and goods issues for scrapped or defective components.
• Participate in scheduled cycle counts and full stock takes, reconciling physical inventory against SAP records before sign-off.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies between SAP inventory records and physical stock counts.
• Monitor spare parts stock against minimum and maximum thresholds and submit replenishment or purchase requests in advance to prevent stock-outs.
• Maintain FIFO and bin management standards, identifying slow-moving, obsolete, or shortage-risk parts and reporting them to the supervisor.

You might be a good fit if you have

• A Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
• At least 2 years of direct experience repairing mobile phones or other electronic devices (mandatory).
• Have hands-on experience using precision tools and electronic diagnostic equipment.
• Experience in software flashing and RF testing (preferred).
• Demonstrable effective teamwork and strong time-management skills.
• Demonstrable integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
