Job Description

Provides leadership, training, and oversight of the hospital’s phlebotomy program. Serves as a subject matter expert for technical issues, supervises trainees, and ensures compliance with quality control and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Handles difficult or complex blood draws.
  • Organizes workflow and ensures timely specimen collection and delivery.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate records of specimens collected.
  • Supervises, trains, and mentors' trainees during hands-on training and completes accurate documentation. Provides ongoing education, ensuring current knowledge of standards.
  • Resolves technical issues and supports staff with difficult blood draws.
  • Opens and closes draw sites, ensuring readiness and compliance with hospital protocols.
  • Ensures quality control and maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Maintains inventory of phlebotomy and processing supplies.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience required.
    • (BLS) Basic Life Support required.
    • ASCP certification or an equivalent certification is required and must be maintained.
    • Prior training or supervisory experience preferred.
    • Proficient in leadership and teaching skills within a clinical environment.
    • Ability to demonstrate expert-level proficiency in phlebotomy techniques.
    • Ability to apply advanced problem-solving skills to technical and patient care challenges.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    • (BLS) Basic Life Support
    • Certified Phlebotomist-ASCP (PBT1000) OR Certified Phlebotomist-NHA (PBT1001) OR Certified Phlebotomist-NHCO (PBT1002) OR Certified Phlebotomist-NPA (PBT1003) OR Certified Phlebotomist-NPCE (PBT1004)
