Mid Shift (United States of America)Under the general direction of the Core Lab Manager and in cooperation with the Phlebotomy Technical Specialist is responsible for coordinating the daily operation of phlebotomy services. All duties will be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards, and will comply with all criteria mandated by the appropriate accrediting and licensing agencies.

Collaborates with Technical Specialist to define performance objectives and assesses the level of competence of staff in a timely manner.
Collaborates with other departments to problem solve ongoing issues that impact departmental/organizational goals and patient care delivery.
Collaborates with Technical Specialist to incorporate quality improvement and patient satisfaction data into departmental goals.
Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and other department functions.
Performs work of equal skill and responsibility as a staff phlebotomist.
Serves as a liaison between laboratory management and staff.
Organizes and prioritizes workflow; posts schedules two weeks in advance and include daily assignments.
Schedules work assignments and plan work schedules of employees to maintain consistent and adequate coverage of the laboratory.
Participates in the evaluation of methods and procedures needed for the section.
Orients new employees when hired and will train all employees if new procedures or methods are established.
Maintains documentation of competency of staff that performs testing within the section.
Investigates and reviews complaints, issues, incident reports and concerns relative to the shift and staff.
Maintains and updates technical knowledge, skills, safety training and any other educational requirement and participate in the ongoing sharing of this knowledge with the staff.
Interacts with Technical Specialists, Managers, Director and pathologists in the implementation of new and existing laboratory procedures and protocol.
When requested, performs duties in Phlebotomy Technical Specialist’s absence.
Monitors turn around times by checking workstation and work lists for pending/incomplete procedures.
Maintains statistical data for laboratory management reports to include TAT’s, productivity and others as assigned.

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
High school graduate or equivalent required
Registered RPT or Certified PBT or CPT required
3 years phlebotomy experience required
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
Knowledge of appropriate blood collection/handling techniques
Moderate to heavy amounts of walking
Light lifting up to 25 pounds, general motion including bending, squatting, reaching, carrying, pushing and pulling
Manual dexterity
Ability to speak plainly
Near visual acuity, ability to discern colors
May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
