The Phlebotomist performs a variety of pre-analytical tasks in the laboratory under direct supervision. Tasks include collecting and receiving samples for testing in the laboratory, verifying proper patient preparation, sample collection, and sampling transport requirements. This role also performs laboratory support functions as applicable and has daily interaction with patients, requiring a sense of ownership and attention to detail.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Collects and receives samples for testing into the laboratory. Verifies proper patient preparation sample collection and sample transport requirements.

  • Maintains properly stocked supplies on phlebotomy cart or tray and supply room.

  • Participates in quality improvement activities as it relates to phlebotomy, processing and transportation of samples.

  • Performs basic clerical duties as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma General or GED General

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • BLS-I - Basic Life Support from American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

  • ASCP, AMT, NHA, NCCT, ABB, NPA or eligible for certification by an agency recognized by the GA Department of Community Health within 6 months of hire. within 180 Days Preferred
