Job Description

This posting is specifically for positions located at our Lebanon, NH campus.

We are seeking candidates looking for permanent employment for the positions listed below.

Our team of 40+ phlebotomists is integral to our laboratory and overall hospital operations. They collect and share vital information with our Laboratory Scientists and Pathologists to help DHMC and Clinics achieve their mission of providing each person with the best care, in the right place, at the right time, every time.

We are seeking candidates with prior Phlebotomy experience, or those looking to start a new career as a Phlebotomist, for whom we will provide on-the-job training on the position/shift you are offered.

The Phlebotomist collects blood samples from patients of all ages. Identifies patients and procures samples.

We are currently recruiting for the following position(s):

Outpatient team:

  • Full-time, day-shift position working Monday-Friday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm with rotating Saturdays.
  • Per Diem, day-shift position working hours scheduled Monday-Friday, 6:45 am - 6 pm and rotating Saturdays from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. The Per Diem position requires training on full-time hours for the first 8 - 12 weeks.

Inpatient team: Our inpatient positions require weekends and holidays on a rotating basis

  • Full-time, early morning-shift position working Monday-Friday, 3:00 am - 1:30 pm.
  • Full-time, evening-shift position working Monday-Friday, 1:00 pm - 9:30 pm.

Full-time hours are required for all positions during the training period.

We are offering the following incentives:

  • A $2,500* bonus for day shifts and evening shifts
  • A $5,000* bonus for night and early morning shifts

We also offer shift differential rate increases for evenings (10%), nights and early mornings (20%), and weekends (15%). The rate is compounded on weekends.

*Restrictions and certain conditions apply (pro-rated for part-time position, and per diem does not receive the bonus)

Responsibilities

Trainee:

  • Learns proper techniques for drawing blood from adult and pediatric patients.
  • Practices accurate patient identification and specimen labeling under supervision.
  • Collects and processes routine samples.
  • Assists in maintaining phlebotomy supplies, equipment, and work areas.
  • Develops competencies in computer systems used for specimen tracking and processing.
  • Uses knowledge to identify issues and identifies resources to assist with resolution.
  • Participates in classroom, simulation, and hands-on training activities.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Phlebotomist:

  • Draws and collects blood specimens using proper techniques.
  • Accurately identifies patients and ensures correct specimen labeling and documentation.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting of samples requisitions, orders, and computer issues and escalates as needed.
  • Provides reassurance and professional care to patients during procedures.
  • Prepares specimens for in-lab testing or off-site shipment.
  • Follows infection control, safety, and quality assurance procedures consistently. Ensures blood drawing stations are clean and well-stocked.
  • Assists in training new Phlebotomists.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Senior Phlebotomist:

  • Draws and collects blood specimens using proper techniques.
  • Handles difficult or complex blood draws.
  • Provides reassurance and professional care to patients during procedures.
  • Maintains clean and stocked phlebotomy stations and equipment.
  • Assists with training and mentoring new phlebotomists in proper procedures.
  • Assists in organizing workflow, troubleshoots samples, and ensures timely specimen collection and delivery, maintaining detailed and accurate records of specimens collected.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Qualifications

    For all positions:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Trainee:

    • BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
    • Enrollment or preparation for ASCP certification.
    • Ability to demonstrate willingness to learn and follow directions.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
    • Proficient in developing safe and proper phlebotomy techniques.

    Phlebotomist:

    • Completion of Phlebotomy Trainee program or a minimum of 6 months’ experience preferred.
    • (BLS) Basic Life Support required.
    • ASCP eligibility required.
    • Skilled in performing accurate and efficient venipuncture and capillary collection.
    • Ability to apply knowledge of specimen requirements for various laboratory tests.
    • Proficient in communicating effectively with patients and interdisciplinary staff.
    • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, accuracy, and safety in all tasks.

    Senior Phlebotomist:

    • Minimum of 12 months’ experience required.
    • (BLS) Basic Life Support required.
    • ASCP eligibility required.
    • Proficient in advanced venipuncture and capillary collections.
    • Ability to provide mentorship and support to team members.
    • Skilled in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff under varied circumstances.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    • Phlebotomist Trainee Basic Life Saving (BLS) required within 30 days of employment.
    • Phlebotomist and Senior Phlebotomist: Basic Life Saving (BLS) required to start.
