Summary:
As a Phlebotomist with Grand Island Clinic, you will be a key member of our healthcare team. You will be responsible for obtaining blood samples and other specimens from patients with care and precision. You will ensure accurate labeling, proper handling, and timely delivery of specimens to support effective diagnosis and treatment.

Essential Job Functions:
- Specimen Collection: Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to obtain blood samples in a professional and efficient manner.
- Patient Interaction: Provide a calm and reassuring environment for patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label, store, and transport specimens to maintain integrity and prevent contamination.
- Documentation: Accurately record patient and specimen information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean, sterilize, and maintain phlebotomy equipment and work areas in compliance with safety and infection control protocols.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and restock phlebotomy supplies to ensure readiness for patient care.
- Collaboration: Work closely with laboratory staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely specimen processing.
- Compliance: Adhere to all applicable regulations, including OSHA and HIPAA, to maintain safety and patient confidentiality.
- Various additional duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired Skills/Abilities:
- Proficient in performing venipunctures and capillary punctures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and labeling.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Familiarity with EHR systems and laboratory software.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to patient safety and comfort.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program is preferred.
- Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) preferred.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods during specimen collection.
- Manual dexterity for handling needles, tubes, and other equipment.
- Visual acuity for reading and labeling specimens.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally for transporting supplies or equipment.
