The Rheumatology Center of Excellence within Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate phlebotomist with strong specimen collection skills, excellent patient interaction, and the ability to support both clinical care and research activities. The ideal candidate will have experience collecting and processing clinical and research specimens, maintaining accurate documentation, and working collaboratively with providers, laboratory teams, and clinical staff.

Responsibilities include:

SPECIMEN COLLECTION & LABORATORY SUPPORT

• Collect blood, urine, and other clinical and research specimens according to established protocols.

• Obtain and understand specimen requirements and testing information.

• Retrieve orders, requisitions, and labels from the EMR to ensure accurate specimen collection and labeling.

• Process specimens through centrifugation, pipetting, aliquoting, and slide preparation as required by clinical and research laboratories.

• Prepare and package specimens for transport to the appropriate laboratory.

• Perform point-of-care testing for CLIA-waived tests.

DOCUMENTATION & RECORDS MANAGEMENT

• Document physician orders as required.

• Maintain accurate records, documentation, and files for clinical and research databases.

• Communicate patient test results to physicians as needed.

PATIENT CARE & CLINICAL ASSISTANCE

• Assist nursing staff with obtaining vital signs, weight measurements, and patient comfort needs.

• Transport patients, assisting with wheelchair transport as needed.

ADMINISTRATIVE & CLERICAL SUPPORT

• Answer phones and assist with general office communications.

• Verify patient test requests and billing information.

• Prepare patient charts and enter charges.

INVENTORY & SUPPLY MANAGEMENT

• Restock laboratory and clinical supply areas as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 6 months relevant experience or combination of education and experience.

• Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently, as well as part of a team.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.

• Professionalism interacting with a diverse group of people, personalities, and cultures.

• Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities while maintaining accuracy.

• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a phlebotomy program.

• Experience in both clinical and research specimen collection.

Work Hours

Typically Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM, however hours may vary with advanced notice depending on work load and need for office coverage.
