Job Description

At Whiddon, we believe aged care is more than care — it’s about connection, dignity, and creating meaningful moments that matter.

As our communities grow and evolve, so too does our ambition. We’re stepping into a new chapter — one that expands our impact beyond today, investing in innovation, research, and community initiatives that will shape the future of ageing.

We are seeking a passionate and strategic Philanthropy Manager to bring the Whiddon Foundation to life. This is more than a fundraising role — it’s an opportunity to build something from the ground up. You’ll play a pivotal role in establishing and leading Whiddon’s philanthropic capability, driving sustainable income streams that support meaningful outcomes for our residents, clients, and communities.

Reporting to the GM Marketing, Communications and Sales, this role will see you working closely with our CEO, Executives, Board and senior leaders, where you’ll help transform ideas into impact — connecting generous donors and partners with causes that truly matter.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Bring the Whiddon Foundation to life, supporting its establishment, governance and ongoing operations

  • Design and deliver a forward-thinking philanthropy strategy, growing income streams across major gifts, trusts, foundations and bequests

  • Shape compelling stories of impact, translating our vision into meaningful opportunities for donors and partners

  • Build and nurture relationships with major donors, Bequest supporters, philanthropic organisations and community stakeholders

  • Develop a strong pipeline of support, cultivating long-term partnerships that enable sustainable growth

  • Lead donor stewardship and engagement, ensuring every contribution is recognised, valued and connected to real outcomes

  • Identify grants and new funding opportunities, aligning support with Whiddon’s strategic priorities

  • Track, measure and share impact, delivering clear reporting that demonstrates the difference philanthropy makes

This is a hands-on leadership role where strategy meets action — perfect for someone who enjoys both thinking big and rolling up their sleeves.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Proven experience in philanthropy across Major Gifts, Trusts and Foundations and Bequets

  • A track record of growing revenue and managing budgets

  • Strong capability in developing funding proposals and articulating impact

  • Experience in building or scaling programs, portfolios or functions

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Bonus points if you have:

  • Established networks within philanthropy, trusts or foundations

  • Experience in aged care or the broader health sector

But most importantly — you’re driven by purpose. You understand that behind every donation is a story, a person, and an opportunity to create lasting change.

About Whiddon

Whiddon is an award-winning, not-for-profit organisation that has been caring for older Australians across NSW and QLD for over 70 years.

We've grown from philanthropic origins to a large organisation, with over 2300 employees caring for more than 2400 residents and clients. Our services include residential aged care, community care and independent living villages.

As an organisation that operates in regional, rural and remote areas, we are often at the heart of our local communities, both as an employer and as an important provider of aged care services, and we actively promote and maintain this sense of community where everyone matters.

Our approach to care has always been directed by the needs and wishes of our residents and clients, supporting them to be as independent as possible. From great quality care, to enabling the older people that we care for to stay connected to the people, interests and communities that they love; this is what really makes the ageing journey a good one.
