  • Be a part of The School of Health Sciences, which is ranked number three in the world for sports, physical therapy, and rehabilitation
  • Base Salary starting from $83,454 + 17% superannuation (Pro rata)

About the opportunity

The Sydney School of Health Sciences is in a period of exciting and significant investment by the Faculty of Medicine and Health. In order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, the University is seeking academics who are passionate about improving health outcomes and/or health equity in the local, national and global communities, who are committed to teaching and research, and area team player ready to contribute across the broad field of academic activities.

We are looking to onboard a number of PhD Fellowswho are currently enrolled as PhD students within the University of Sydney in a fixed-term capacity. The incumbents will be located in the Susan Wakil Health building on the Camperdown Campus.

These positions offer an opportunity to develop and contribute to education and teaching in OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, SPEECH PATHOLOGY, PHYSIOTHERAPY, EXERCISE AND SPORT SCIENCE, MEDICAL IMAGING SCIENCES AND BEHAVIOURAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCE IN HEALTH, as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health.

PhD Fellow positions are education focused roles, with a workload dedicated to teaching in the School of Health Sciences. These positions provide PhD candidates with structured, supported opportunities to develop their teaching practice, gain substantial classroom experience, and build an academic teaching profile while progressing their doctoral research. As education-focused PhD Fellows, PhD students contribute meaningfully to undergraduate and postgraduate education while integrating teaching with their broader research training.

The employment as a PhD Fellow is conditional upon their continuing enrolment in their PhD and will terminate on the specified end date of their contract or immediately upon earlier cessation of their enrolment as a PhD student.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Undertake teaching in the School of Health Sciences, contributing to outstanding teaching and learning outcomes
  • engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education
  • carry out administrative tasks primarily connected with your teaching area and discipline
  • contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
  • understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty strategic agenda
  • undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

  • Be a currently enrolled PhD student at full time or part time mode at the University of Sydney- within the relevant discipline, have been enrolled for a minimum of two Research Periods (approximately 6 months) at full time equivalent and does not plan on submitting their PhD within two years of start date of the contract
  • be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the subject matter within the discipline
  • provide research supervisor endorsement for the role and be on track in their studies
  • have experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
  • have experience in participation as a team member in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • have a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to be eligible to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
