Department: Wheelersburg Pharmacy

Shift/schedule: Contingent (works as needed)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Works closely with and under the direct supervision of the Pharmacists. The Pharmacy Technician Trainee's primary job functions include assisting the Pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of medications, inventory and stock replacement, and assuring the appropriate billing for SOMC patient and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

Licensure:

• Registered Pharmacy Technician Trainee required

• Registered, Certified Pharmacy Technician (OH) within 12 months of registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee required

• (If Registration as Certified Pharmacy Technician (OH) is not obtained within 12 months of registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee, position may result in termination of employment)

Experience:

• Pharmacy Technician training program or prior technician work experience preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

1. Accept new written, faxed, or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or a prescriber's agent.

2. Enters information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile.

3. Prepares and affixes labels

4. Stocks dangerous drugs and retrieves those drugs from inventory

5. Counts and pours dangerous drugs into containers

6. Places dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist

7. Performs non-sterile drug compounding

8. Performs sterile drug compounding

9. Packages and sells dangerous drugs to patients or patient representatives

10. Sends or receives electronic prescriptions between pharmacies accessing the same prescription records in a centralized database or pharmacy computers linked in any other manner
