PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification preferred
Two (2) years pharmacy technician experience a plus
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Effective communication skills
Demonstrates ability to prioritize and solve problems
Able to spend most of the day standing, walking, or bending. Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, reach, push up to 50 lbs., and regularly and occasionally lift 0-30 lbs.

Standard office equipment and pharmacy equipment.
ENVIRONMENT
Standard pharmacy environment.
Working with the public.
Work with chemotherapy and other bio-hazardous agents
Working weekends and shift rotations when applicable.
May be required to work overtime and extended shifts during emergencies.
May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, ionizing & non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications and disoriented or combative patients or others.
The Pharmacy Technologist assists Pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
PHARMACY TECHNICIAN TRAINEE
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
High school or equivalent and no experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be registered with the Texas Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee
To provide technical assistance in the dispensing of prescribed medications and pharmaceutical preparations.
MAJOR DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
Retrieves and delivers medication and supplies.
Prepares unit-dose medications specific to patient needs including patient’s weight, allergies, and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
Repackages and labels medication items in the inpatient setting specific to patient needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
Assists in record keeping activities in any assigned area.
Maintains adequate drug inventories in pharmacy areas and patient care areas.
Compounds bulk and extemporaneous pharmaceuticals specific to patients needs including weight and age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
Demonstrates the ability to operate automated technology including compounding, repackaging, cart fill, and Automated Drug Systems.
Performs automated compounding repackaging and cart-fill.
Communicates effectively with other pharmacy employees, healthcare professionals, and patients while appropriately recognizing age (pediatric, neonate, adolescent, adult, and geriatric).
Maintains a neat clean and organized work area.
Demonstrates flexibility in staffing assignments.
Adheres to internal controls established for department.
Performs other related duties as requested.
