Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician Courier is responsible for the safe and timely transport of hazardous and non-hazardous medications from the Kent Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy to the Oncology office in Cranston, RI. This position performs scheduled round-trip deliveries, ensuring medications are delivered securely and directly to Nursing staff and ADS in accordance with hospital policies, state regulations, and safety standards.

When not performing deliveries, the technician assists the Inventory Coordinator with pharmacy inventory management and may be assigned general pharmacy technician duties as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled round-trip deliveries between Kent Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy and the Oncology office in Cranston, RI.
  • Safely transport hazardous and non-hazardous medications in compliance with USP, OSHA, and hospital handling procedures.
  • Deliver medications directly to Nursing staff and ADS personnel while maintaining chain of custody and delivery accuracy.
  • Maintain delivery logs and documentation as required.
  • Ensure medications are transported in appropriate containers and temperature-controlled conditions when necessary.
  • Assist the Inventory Coordinator with:
    • Stocking medications and supplies
    • Inventory counts and restocking
    • Expiration date monitoring
    • Organization of pharmacy inventory areas
  • Perform all other pharmacy technician duties as assigned, including medication preparation, packaging, labeling, and other operational support tasks within scope of practice.
  • Follow all hospital, pharmacy, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain professional communication with pharmacy staff, nursing staff, and clinic personnel.

Qualifications

  • Current Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician I license required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Reliable personal vehicle required for daily deliveries.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to safely handle hazardous medications following established protocols.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules efficiently.
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacy operations preferred.
  • Previous hospital or oncology pharmacy experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to drive regularly between locations.
  • Ability to transport medication bins, totes, and supplies safely.

Work Environment

This position works in both hospital pharmacy and outpatient oncology settings and involves handling hazardous and non-hazardous medications. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and training will be provided in accordance with regulatory standards.
